The Degree Gap is growing quickly, and we are now hiring the first person to join our core team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the company at an early stage, work closely with the founders and play a direct role in our continued growth.
We are looking for a confident, commercially minded Recruitment and Sales Executive to join us on a part time basis. This is not a narrow sales or recruitment position. You will help us grow both sides of the business by speaking with prospective families and identifying excellent tutors.
The role is split across two main areas.
The first is contacting parents who have engaged with The Degree Gap through webinars, enquiry forms and educational resources. You will speak with families, understand the support their child needs and book suitable consultation calls with our founders.
The second is helping us recruit high quality tutors. You will review applications, contact promising candidates, conduct initial screening calls and progress the strongest tutors to a founder interview.
You will be joining at an important stage in our development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape our processes, take on greater responsibility and grow with the company as the team expands.
Hours
This is a fully remote role.
You will work 20 hours per week on a flexible basis and must be available for at least two weekday evenings each week, normally between 4pm and 8pm, as this is when most parents are available.
You will also be required to attend weekly online team meeting with the founders.
Our busiest periods are September, January and the spring examination period.
Pay
£15 per hour base pay.
You will also receive £15 commission for every consultation call you book where the family attends.
Realistic total earnings are approximately £1,600 to £1,950 or more per month once fully established.
Commission is uncapped.
What the role involves
- Calling parents who have attended webinars or made an enquiry
- Understanding the student’s year group, subjects and academic needs
- Explaining how The Degree Gap works and the support we provide
- Booking qualified consultation calls with the founders
- Following up with parents who are interested but not yet ready to proceed
- Handling common questions and objections professionally
- Reviewing tutor applications
- Conducting initial tutor screening calls
- Assessing tutors based on their experience, communication, academic background and availability
- Progressing suitable candidates to a founder interview
- Keeping accurate notes and updating our systems
- Helping us improve our sales and recruitment processes as the company grows
Basic requirements
- At least two years of experience in sales, recruitment or business development
- Strong telephone communication skills
- Confidence speaking with parents and professional candidates
- A great understanding of GCSEs, A Levels and the UK education system
- Strong GCSE and A Level results with preferably some tutoring experience
- The ability to handle rejection and objections confidently
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- Availability to work at least two weekday evenings each week
- The ability to work independently in a remote role
Ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in sales, recruitment or both.
You will be confident on the telephone, motivated by targets and comfortable encouraging people to take the next step.
You will be able to build trust with parents, understand their concerns and clearly explain the value of speaking with The Degree Gap.
You will also be able to assess tutor candidates carefully and identify those who are likely to be reliable, professional and effective with students.
You should be commercially driven, resilient and motivated by commission. You must be comfortable dealing with rejection, following up leads and working towards clear performance targets.
Experience in education, tutoring, recruitment or appointment setting would be particularly valuable.
Most importantly, you should be excited by the opportunity to join a rapidly growing company as its first core team member. You will work directly with the founders, have meaningful responsibility from the beginning and help shape how the company grows.
