Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structural steelwork, architectural metalwork, and bespoke fabrication projects. This role is critical in securing profitable work and supporting the continued growth of the business.
The Senior Estimator will work closely with clients, project managers, engineers, suppliers, and the fabrication team to ensure all quotations are commercially sound and technically accurate.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and client requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for fabrication and engineering projects.
- Analyse material, labour, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Conduct site visits where required to assess project scope and risks.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
- Liaise with clients, architects, consultants, and contractors during the tender process.
- Present estimates and tender recommendations to senior management.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, cost libraries, and pricing schedules.
- Assist with contract handovers to project delivery teams following successful bids.
- Monitor market trends, material costs, and industry developments.
- Support business development activities and contribute to bid strategy discussions.
- Mentor and support junior estimators where applicable.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years' experience in estimating within structural steelwork, metal fabrication, engineering, or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, materials, and manufacturing methods.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.
- Excellent commercial awareness and cost analysis skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience using estimating software and ERP/MRP systems.
- Knowledge of CE/UKCA marking requirements and industry standards.
- Experience with design-and-build projects.

Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
