Post No. PR181.1 - Economic Development Officer - Regeneration and Economic Development Service
This is an incredibly exciting time to be working for Newport City Council, and you can play a key role in helping to set up systems to promote and enable entrepreneurship, create sustainable business resilience and growth, and take forward a range of new economic regeneration initiatives.
As part of this, we have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Business Support team. Within this role you will work on a wide range of projects in support of local businesses, with the overarching aim of achieving sustainable and inclusive growth in the local economy.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting start-up, micro, small to medium enterprises and social enterprises to reach their full potential. You will work with partners to enable businesses to contribute to making Newport a great place to start and sustainably grow.- You will maintain effective ‘account management’ contact, undertaking regular dialogue, record keeping, company visits, aftercare programmes and handholding of clients in addition to providing relevant advice and information.
- You will respond to inward investment enquiries, proactively engaging with key stakeholders across the region and with investors to promote the city as an attractive place to locate and invest.
- You will build strong links with key partners and innovation programmes to nurture and further develop the city’s key growth sectors.
- You will assist in the administration of the Council’s Business Support funds, providing advice to applicants, undertake application review, prepare reports for decision, and process financial claims.
Working in a business-focused environment, you should have a good understanding of Newport’s local economy, the drivers of local business growth, what stimulates inward investment activity, and have an ability to collect and process economic data to inform team activity.
You should have excellent communication skills, be able to work both on your own and as part of a team and be able to confidently network and collaborate with a wide range of people and organisations.
