Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate, reliable, and responsible Carer/Driver to provide high-quality care and support to individuals in their own homes and within supported living environments.
The ideal candidate will be committed to promoting the independence, dignity, wellbeing, and quality of life of the people we support. The role combines hands-on care with driving responsibilities, so candidates must be confident supporting individuals with mobility and able to travel between care locations safely and reliably.
You will work as part of a supportive care team, building positive relationships with service users, their families, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred care and support tailored to each individual's needs and preferences.
- Assist service users with daily living activities, including personal care, dressing, meal preparation, and maintaining independence.
- Support with medication in accordance with care plans, policies, and training.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, encouraging meaningful activities and social engagement.
- Support service users with mobility, transfers, and safe movement in accordance with their care and moving and handling plans.
- Safely transport service users to appointments, activities, community services, and other required destinations where applicable.
- Drive safely and responsibly while transporting service users, ensuring their comfort and dignity at all times.
- Communicate effectively with service users, families, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and timely care records, including documenting care provided and reporting any changes in health, behaviour, or wellbeing.
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns, incidents, accidents, or changes in service users' needs promptly.
- Follow all relevant care plans, risk assessments, medication procedures, health and safety requirements, and organisational policies.
- Promote equality, dignity, choice, privacy, and independence in all aspects of care delivery.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Full, clean UK driving licence – essential.
- Previous experience in a care or support role is desirable.
- Good driving skills and a responsible approach to transporting service users.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good understanding of person-centred care and promoting independence.
- Ability to recognise and report changes in a service user's health or wellbeing.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.
- Willingness to complete all required care training and competency assessments.
- Ability to maintain accurate care records and follow care plans and risk assessments.
Desirable
- Care Certificate or relevant Health & Social Care qualification.
- Previous experience working in domiciliary care or supported living.
- Experience supporting individuals with complex care needs, dementia, learning disabilities, or physical disabilities.
- Medication administration training.
- Moving and Handling training.
- Safeguarding Adults training.
- Basic Life Support training.
