Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Packing Supervisor to join our team at Destiny Foods. Located in Great Britain, this role is essential in ensuring that our high-quality dessert products are packed efficiently and accurately for distribution. Your contributions will help us maintain our reputation as a leading supplier in the industry. The hours or work for this role are 2pm - 10pm Monday - Friday.
Purpose
To lead and actively work on assigned packing lines, ensuring products are packed efficiently, safely, and to the required quality and customer standards. The Packing Supervisor is a hands-on role, responsible for supporting and directing packing operatives while participating in day-to-day packing activities. The role oversees line performance, coordinates packing operations, resolves operational issues, and ensures compliance with food safety, quality, and health & safety requirements. The Packing Supervisor reports directly to the High Care Manager.
Responsibilities
- Actively work on and supervise assigned packing lines, ensuring daily production plans and targets are achieved.
- Lead by example, providing hands-on support to packing operatives while maintaining efficient line operation.
- Monitor line performance throughout the shift, taking immediate corrective action to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
- Ensure products are packed, labelled, coded, and palletised accurately in line with product specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.
- Carry out line start-up checks and verify that all materials, packaging, and equipment are available, fit for use, and ready for production.
- Monitor product quality throughout the packing process, addressing issues promptly and escalating concerns where necessary.
- Complete and verify all line documentation, production records, and traceability paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate product changeovers, ensuring they are completed safely and efficiently to minimise production downtime.
- Support and direct packing operatives, allocating tasks and resources to meet operational requirements.
- Liaise effectively with Production, Planning, Quality, Warehouse, and Engineering teams to ensure the smooth running of operations.
- Identify, report, and assist with resolving equipment issues, working closely with Engineering during breakdowns, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Monitor waste levels and actively support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce product loss, and optimise line performance.
- Ensure all packing activities comply with customer, legal, food safety, quality, and company standards at all times.
- Promote and maintain high standards of housekeeping, hygiene, and Health & Safety within the packing area.
- Assist with the training, coaching, and onboarding of packing operatives to ensure competence and adherence to required standards.
- Support the High Care Manager in delivering departmental objectives and maintaining a positive, productive team environment.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Experience within a food manufacturing or food production environment.
- Experience working on packing or production lines.
- Good understanding of food safety and quality standards.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Effective problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to coordinate activities across departments.
Desirable:
- Previous experience overseeing a production or packing line.
- HACCP awareness.
- Experience working with production reporting systems.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
