Level 3 Multiskilled Maintenance ApprenticeKeep the machines running. Solve problems. Build your engineering career.
Location: Perfection Foods, Walsall
What happens when you've got a factory producing millions of cakes and one of the machines suddenly stops?
That's where you come in.
Perfection Foods is a family-owned, award-winning bakery producing more than 40 varieties of cakes, supplying major retailers and customers in over 40 countries.
We're looking for a Level 3 Multiskilled Maintenance Apprentice to join our engineering team in Walsall and learn how to keep our production equipment running safely, efficiently and reliably.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll earn while you learn, develop valuable technical skills and work towards a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification.
What will you actually be doing?
As a Multiskilled Maintenance Apprentice, you'll learn how to maintain and repair the machinery that keeps a busy food manufacturing site running.
You'll develop skills across both mechanical and electrical engineering, including:
- Carrying out planned maintenance on production machinery.
- Finding faults and working out why equipment isn't working correctly.
- Learning how to repair and replace mechanical components.
- Developing electrical fault-finding and maintenance skills.
- Using engineering tools and equipment safely.
- Learning how automated production machinery works.
- Supporting engineers when machinery breaks down.
- Carrying out inspections and identifying potential problems before they become breakdowns.
- Following health, safety and food manufacturing procedures.
- Keeping accurate maintenance records.
- Working as part of a team to keep production moving.
You'll gradually take on more responsibility as your knowledge, skills and confidence grow.
You don't need to be a maintenance engineer already. That's what the apprenticeship is for.
Why Perfection Foods?
Perfection Foods isn't a small workshop making one product.
It's a major food manufacturer producing up to 70 million cakes a year, with manufacturing sites across the region and products reaching customers around the world.
That means there's plenty for you to learn.
You'll be working around large-scale production equipment and seeing first-hand how engineering keeps a modern manufacturing business moving.
And there's something pretty satisfying about knowing that when the machinery is running, you're part of the reason those cakes are getting made.
What are we looking for?
You don't need previous maintenance experience.
We're looking for someone with curiosity, determination and a willingness to learn.
You'll ideally:
- Hold a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, to include maths and English language.
- Be interested in how machines and technology work.
- Enjoy practical, hands-on problem solving.
- Like figuring out what has gone wrong and finding a solution.
- Be comfortable working with tools and equipment.
- Have a good approach to Maths and problem solving.
- Be reliable and willing to get stuck in.
- Work well as part of a team.
- Take safety seriously.
- Be keen to develop both your mechanical and electrical skills.
Your apprenticeship
You'll work towards a Level 3 Multiskilled Maintenance qualification, combining workplace experience with structured technical training.
You'll learn from experienced engineers while developing the knowledge and practical skills needed to progress within engineering and maintenance.
By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have more than a qualification.
You'll have real experience of maintaining machinery in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Where could it take you?
This apprenticeship could be the first step towards a career as a:
Maintenance Engineer
Multiskilled Engineer
Electrical Engineer
Mechanical Engineer
Engineering Technician
Engineering Team Leader
The skills you develop could also open opportunities across food manufacturing, engineering, automation, manufacturing and other industries.
Why choose maintenance engineering?
If you enjoy fixing things, solving problems and understanding how machines work, maintenance engineering can be a seriously rewarding career.
Every day brings a different challenge.
One minute you're carrying out planned maintenance. The next you're investigating a fault and working out how to get a production line running again.
You won't just be watching engineering happen. You'll be learning how to make it happen.
Ready to get started?
If you're practical, curious and ready to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
