JOB DESCRIPTION – COOK
9am - 3pm - Term time only in accordance to our school term dates.
The nursery have a full time working Chef. However, in their absence you will take over their roles as head cook. the following jobs below apply then. during working hours when both cook and assistant are in you will be taking care of the meals for the secondary school that we are attached to and using a shared kitchen.
1. To prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, conforming to all food handling, environmental and health regulations.
2. To ensure that food is hygienically and correctly stored and all food areas are kept clean.
3. To prepare special meals / alternatives for children with dietary needs. To be extremely vigilant with medical allergies and preferences.
4. To ensure that the prepared food is conveyed safely from the kitchen to the desired room.
5. To collect and clean the crockery, pots, pans and cutlery using the setting’s dishwasher.
6. To stock food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and the security of items.
7. To ensure that the refrigerator and freezer temperatures are taken and recorded twice daily and report any problems to your line manager or Head of the setting.
8. To ensure that cleaning duties are carried out correctly and recorded.
9. To ensure that appropriate uniform is worn at all times, hair tied back into a chef’s hat or hair net.
Appropriate shoes are worn and nails remain short and nail polish free.
10. To adhere to the Health and Safety standards, Food Hygiene Regulations 2006 and The Safer
Food Better Business policies and procedures.
11. To attend mandatory and staff training courses / meetings on or off site as and when required.
12. To report to management immediately of any illness of an infectious nature or accident.
13. To estimate food preparation amounts and adjust recipes, if required, for the purpose of the children’s individual needs and minimizing waste of food items.
14. To maintain equipment, storage, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition for the purpose of complying with current health standards.
15. To ensure that high standards of hygiene and safety are maintained at all times in the kitchen through daily cleaning and monitoring kitchen equipment.
16. To ensure that qualifications which require renewal, refreshing etc are updated before they expire.
17. To maintain a positive attitude at all times with children, parents, visitors and work colleagues.
18. To update and maintain food allergy/medical care plans and create medical slips for the rooms at the nursery. To manage the menu in accordance with community needs and seasonal foods. 3 termly menus are to be revisited.
19. To take on any other reasonable responsibilities as requested by the Head of Wellingtons for Langley Hall Nursery.
In line with safeguarding procedures this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and references to ensure.
Pay: £13.00-£14.00 per hour
