Summary
The Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of design, engineering, and manufacturing solutions for high-end, ultra-premium automotive programmes. Working under the guidance of the Lead Project Engineers, & Senior Design Engineers the role involves contributing to the scoping, design, and development of engineering solutions critical to the successful execution of exclusive vehicle projects for leading global automotive brands.
Responsibilities
- Design components and module level to meet cost targets while achieving challenging performance attributes and the lowest feasible weight
- Design fixtures/tooling for the manufacture of the components
- Manage interface with styling
- Report to Senior chief engineer responsible for the project
- Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials or products
- Provide technical design support for car build (prototype and production)
- Liaise with suppliers, Manufacturing, Engineering and Purchasing teams
- Represent the department in design reviews and during test and development activities if required
- Engineering responsibility (including design and release) of full vehicle interior systems:
Fascia
Tunnel
Seating
Restraints
Lower and rear trim
Upper trim
Closure trim
Provide support to the team, offering guidance and advice when needed
Skills and Experience Required
- Catia V5 experience
- Exterior experience
- Knowledge of tool design
- Carbon lay-up knowledge an advantage but not essential.
- Development of module packaging
- Extensive use of the Generative Shape Design, Part Design and Assembly Design
- Ability to develop both part and tool drawings.
- Possess a flexible approach adaptable to changing requirements at short notice.
- Have good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills
- Possess the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Maintain a professional, accountable, proactive, and helpful attitude at all times.
- Maintain the ability and maturity to give and receive feedback constructively and negotiate with colleagues harmoniously.
