Senior Hotel Receptionist
Meikleour Estate, a country estate near Perth, is recruiting an experienced Senior Hotel Receptionist for its award-winning boutique hotel and restaurant, The Meikleour Arms, an AA 4-Star Gold hotel with a 1 Rosette restaurant.
Combining guest service, reservations and office administration, this role supports the hotel management team and plays a key part in the guest journey, from the initial reservation through to check-out. It also involves ensuring that daily administrative and financial procedures are completed accurately.
Main Responsibilities
- Welcoming guests and managing hotel check-ins and check-outs.
- Ensuring guests receive a warm, professional and consistently high standard of service throughout their stay.
- Managing hotel reservations received by telephone, email, online and through online travel agents.
- Handling restaurant, group and activity reservations and enquiries.
- Liaising closely with the housekeeping team to communicate guest requests, preferences and room priorities.
- Reporting and following up on maintenance issues.
- Responding to guest concerns promptly and professionally, with a focus on finding a positive resolution. This may occasionally involve driving a hotel vehicle to assist guests staying in our off-site cottages.
- Completing daily financial reconciliations for head office.
- Cashing up, checking payments and ensuring tills balance accurately.
- Managing hotel guest billing, invoices and queries.
- Maintaining accurate records and completing daily reports and Excel spreadsheets.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week, including a mixture of morning, evening and back office shifts.
- Morning shift: 7.00am–3.00pm
- Evening shift: 3pm–11pm
- Back office: 10am-6pm
Weekend working will form part of the normal rota.
About You
We are looking for someone who is naturally welcoming, highly organised and confident working with both guests and detailed administrative procedures.
You must have:
- Previous experience in hotel reception and reservations.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- A warm, helpful and professional manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve guest concerns calmly and constructively.
- Excellent office administration skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience using a hotel property management or reservation system.
- Experience handling cash, invoices, payments and daily financial reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with figures.
- A clean driving license
- The right to work in the UK.
Experience within a quality hotel, restaurant or Rosette-level hospitality environment would be an advantage.
Salary and Package
- £32,240 annual salary
- 40 hours per week
- Overtime paid at £17.37 per hour, including holiday pay on overtime
- HMRC-compliant tronc tips, estimated at approximately £3,000 per year
- 5.6 weeks’ annual leave
