Purpose
The Content Subject Specialist role is there to provide subject knowledge and expertise where required across different qualifications and disciplines.

Have personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson software, relevant malware, appropriate virus protection software, a suitable internet connection, and a personal, secure email account.

Raise any concerns if you suspect or are made aware of any malpractice, maladministration, and/or safeguarding issues.
Role Specific Services and Expectations
As well as Pearson’s core services expectations, there are also role-specific services and expectations that you must consider and be able to provide. These include:
Ensuring assessment materials comply with the Global Content Policy, support accessibility, Diversity, Equality & Inclusion, and sensitivity guidelines.
Ensuring all applicable assessment materials produced are of high quality, show sufficient coverage of the assessment criteria, and are appropriate to the specific range of ability resulting in good discrimination and differentiation at all levels that it is designed to test.
Advising on subject specialist matters throughout the production process and providing feedback where necessary.
Adhering to the production schedules and turnaround requests, keeping Pearson informed of your availability which could affect deadlines.
Supporting the production of the assessment materials to ensure they meet the level of demand, and the questions are clear, fit for purpose, and error-free.
Checking the accuracy of the sources used, and where applicable, so that Pearson can request copyright permission to use the material. Refer to Pearson-approved supplier lists if provided.
Ensuring that appropriate graphics, photographs, diagrams, or images (where required) are from reputable sources and free from error.
Ensuring that the nature and range of responses required by the mark scheme are appropriate and correct.
Complying with the demands of the current specification as far as duration of the paper, reading/preparation time, number of questions/items, and all other aspects are concerned, and that the rubric is clear and reflects these requirements.
Ensuring that materials do not contain unnecessary repetition of questions and that distractors do not inform the answer to other questions.
Reviewing, reporting, and clearly marking up comments and producing revised assessment materials, as and when required, throughout the production process.
Providing feedback on drafts at each stage and attending sign-off meeting(s) where required.
Ensuring all associated materials are updated throughout the production process and signoff of the final assessment materials, where applicable.
Supporting, reviewing, and agreeing on modified paper amendments, where requested by Pearson.
Experience and Qualifications Required:
Experience:
As a representative of the company, you will be expected to have experience in, or be able to demonstrate the ability of the following:
Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT and interpersonal skills
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the specific content area (e.g., assessments and curriculum development).
Proven ability to provide and co-ordinate training.
Proven track record of leading quality assurance activities.
Ability to meet deadlines
Qualifications:
Qualifications required to apply for your chosen role at Pearson will depend on the qualification you are delivering. Please contact Pearson ahead of your application if the requirements are not clear.
Vocational Qualifications (e.g., BTEC/FS)
A minimum of one full academic year of teaching experience in the relevant subject area/sector within the last 8 years and/or extensive knowledge and experience in Pearson assessment, quality, and processes and national standards within the last 5 years.
A UK recognised teaching qualification.
Current sector experience/applied subject knowledge (with a min of 2 years' experience)
Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the role or specialist area.
Desirable:
Educated to a level 4 standard or above with relevant qualifications for the sector/subject area
Experience in delivering and assessing vocational qualifications
Evidence of continuous Professional Development (CPD) in subject specialism
A clear understanding of the educational landscape and regulatory requirements for qualifications
Experience in the examination process, pre-standardisation and standardisation activities, and awarding
Experience of teaching or assessing externally assessed qualifications
Innovative writers with fresh ideas that motivate our learners and set them on the path to success
Experience in writing specifications or external assessments within the sector
Experience in working with/on specifications and/or external assessments within the role/specialism
Experience of advising and supporting others
Experience of complying with quality assurance/regulatory requirements
Experience of leading meetings/discussions
Recent experience of working within the industry/sector
Experience of making grading judgements
Experience of assessing and reporting risks
Current DBS
Knowledge of Prevent & safeguarding

Declare any conflicts of interest that could impact on the role
Have availability of a minimum of 10 days, depending upon the requirements and workload for the sector, in any given year for attending meetings
Allow sufficient time for completion of duties and tasks as directed by the role.
Undertake any other duties appropriate as required by Pearson in relation to this role
Abide by the terms of conditions as stated in the contract for work
Applicants selected for additional activities may be required to complete tasks, training and/or standardisation before work can be allocated
Ensure sufficient time and availability before contracts are accepted.
Ensure that Pearson contact is notified of any issues that may delay the submission or completion of material/work.
