Job Overview:
We are seeking an organised, compassionate and proactive Student Welfare Officer to join our pastoral team on a full-time, term-time basis. This role combines student welfare, medical provision, administrative support and pastoral care, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy school environment where every day is different.
You will act as the first point of contact for students requiring medical assistance while supporting the smooth operation of student services. Working closely with safeguarding, pastoral, teaching and administrative colleagues, you will help ensure students receive high-quality care and support throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
Student Welfare & Medical Support
- Provide immediate first aid and medical assistance to students and staff as required.
- Assess medical needs and determine appropriate courses of action.
- Administer medication in accordance with school policies and healthcare plans.
- Maintain confidential and accurate medical records.
- Develop, review and monitor Individual Healthcare Plans in collaboration with families and healthcare professionals.
- Ensure emergency medication and medical equipment are regularly checked and maintained.
- Promote infection prevention, hygiene and safe working practices across the school.
- Monitor accident and first aid records, identifying trends and recommending preventative measures.
- Support vaccination programmes and other health-related initiatives where required.
Student Services
- Welcome students, parents and visitors, providing an efficient and professional front-line service.
- Support the daily operation of the student services office.
- Manage student uniform issues, including communication with parents and maintaining records.
- Oversee lost property procedures.
- Maintain accurate student records and administrative documentation.
- Ensure sensitive information is handled confidentially and in accordance with data protection legislation.
Leadership & Compliance
- Lead the school's first aid provision and ensure appropriate coverage throughout the day.
- Coordinate first aid training and certification for staff.
- Conduct regular audits of first aid equipment, procedures and compliance.
- Maintain records relating to health and safety and statutory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with safeguarding, pastoral and health and safety teams to support student wellbeing.
- Report safeguarding concerns promptly and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of student welfare systems and processes.

Essential Requirements
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- A recognised First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain one).
- At least three years' experience in an administrative or student support role.
- Experience working with children, young people or families.
- Good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and confidentiality requirements.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and analysing data.
- Knowledge of public health guidance, infection prevention and student wellbeing.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external professionals.
Desirable Skills
- Experience analysing accident or incident data and implementing improvements.
- Experience coordinating staff training or maintaining compliance records.
- Knowledge of healthcare plans and supporting students with medical conditions.
- Previous experience within a school or educational setting.

Pay: £24,420.00-£41,668.33 per year
