Job Purpose
The Group Tax Manager will own the Group's tax reporting obligations, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant tax accounting and disclosure across all jurisdictions in which the Group operates, with a particular focus on the UK and US. This is a broad, hands-on role suited to someone who is equally comfortable managing technical tax reporting matters and completing day-to-day administrative and compliance tasks in a lean, fast-paced finance team.
Key Responsibilities
Group Tax Reporting
- Own the preparation and delivery of the Group's tax reporting under IFRS, including current and deferred tax calculations, tax disclosures for the annual report
- Coordinate the year-end tax reporting process across all Group entities, including UK, US and other international subsidiaries.
- Ensure accurate tax balances are reflected in the Group consolidation and statutory accounts, liaising closely with the financial reporting team.
- Manage the Group's transfer pricing documentation and policies, working with external advisors as needed.
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors on all tax reporting matters.
Compliance & Advisory
- Manage UK corporation tax compliance, including preparation of key deliverables for delivery to external advisors and review of tax computations and returns.
- Oversee US federal and state tax compliance in conjunction with local advisors, ensuring Group reporting requirements are met.
- Manage corporate tax returns in other international jurisdictions to ensure in conjunction with local advisors, ensuring Group is fully compliant.
- Monitor and manage VAT/sales tax and other indirect tax compliance obligations across jurisdictions.
- Keep up to date of changes in tax legislation (UK, US and other relevant jurisdictions) and assess impact on the Group
- Manage R&D tax claims ensuring compliance and maximising benefit to the Group
Process, Controls & Administration
- Maintain and improve tax control processes and documentation in line with good governance and audit requirements
- Complete day-to-day administrative tasks supporting the tax and wider finance function, including filing, correspondence with tax authorities, and maintaining tax registrations.
- Support with ad hoc finance administration and reporting tasks as required.
- Assist with tax-related aspects of finance systems and process improvement projects.
Key Skills
- ACA / ACCA / CTA qualified (or equivalent), with post-qualification experience in a tax-focused role.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK corporate tax and tax accounting; familiarity with US tax concepts is a strong advantage.
- Proven experience managing group tax reporting in a multi-entity, international environment.
- Comfortable operating in a smaller or lean finance team where hands-on administrative involvement is required alongside technical delivery.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with finance/ERP systems
- Ability to use AI to improve processes an advantage
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain tax matters clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
- Self-starter with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
