Personal Care Assistant (PA) is required to support a young lady at home with Complex
Care needs. The Location is Hagley/Clent in Worcestershire. On a permanent contract to cover 24 up to 36 hours a week. Shifts are 12 hours, which include alternate weekends. Day shift patterns are 08:00 - 20:00. Flexibility is required to cover some holiday leave and sickness.
Starting salary ranges from £13.75 - £16.75 per hour PLUS a travel allowance. We
are looking for a PA to work as part of a team to look after a young lady who has a spinal cord injury due an infection contracted 11 years ago. She now requires breathing support from a ventilator and has a tracheostomy in situ, which requires ongoing management and daytime intervention.
Despite her care needs, this lady is of sound mind with a brilliant sense of humour and
personality, not afraid to have a laugh and a joke with her care team. She loves a variety of television programmes and daily soaps. She likes going out in her powered wheelchair and mobility vehicle to the shops, cinema, events etc. She has high input on the Care Package provided and will help support and inform you of how to carry out her daily care.
Support is required with; Tracheostomy care / Ventilation / Suctioning / Catheter Care /
Nebulisers / Moving and Handling and Medication Administration via PEG. Moving and
Handling is required to be conducted in accordance with risk assessments to reduce the risk of skin damage. (all training for the above will be provided).
The PA will be part of a dedicated team of healthcare professionals and work under the
guidance and supervision of a Team Lead and senior staff as well as supported by
community nurses. You should be focused and aim to meet the support needs of this young lady’s individual care and rehabilitation programme. This is an excellent opportunity to diversify your skills and experience in a complex and rewarding package.
We are seeking applicants who hold a valid UK driving licence. For personal reasons this lady would like female persons to only apply. Experience is not essential however, you should have a caring nature, friendly disposition, and you can be flexible and work well in a team environment, following the demands of the job. You need to be trustworthy, reliable, and punctual with a keen interest to learn.
Finally, communication is key, therefore your Conversational English Must is Very Good.
We are wanting the applicants to feel this role is a long term position and not just a short break between jobs. Attendance of 4–6-hour, shadow shifts for training purposes is necessary to begin with. This will enable successful candidates the opportunity to interact with the young lady and utilise her input.
Due to this position being for a Private Residence we are NOT looking for any candidates wanting to join us from outside the UK as we are not in a position to support Visa applications.
There will be a 12 week probation period and following that time, if you are happy to
continue in the position, we will then also provide the following.
Travel Allowance paid after a 12 week probation period.
