Lead Laboratory Technician – Dimensional Metrology
Summary
The Lead Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing daily laboratory operations related to dimensional metrology, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and traceability of measurement activities. This role provides technical leadership to laboratory personnel, maintains compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to deliver high-quality calibration and measurement services.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of dimensional metrology principles and calibration techniques.

Key responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Lead and coordinate daily activities of the dimensional metrology laboratory. Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to laboratory technicians.
Assign work priorities and ensure timely completion of calibration and measurement activities.
Serve as the technical resource for complex measurement challenges and customer enquiries.
Dimensional Metrology Operations: Perform and oversee calibrations and measurements using precision measurement equipment and reference standards, interpret engineering drawings and customer specification. Develop, review, and validate measurement methods and procedures. Ensure measurement traceability to national and international standards.
ISO/IEC 17025 Compliance: Maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and laboratory quality management systems;
Prepare and participate in internal and external audits and accreditation assessments; Develop, review, and maintain laboratory procedures, work instructions, and technical records; Investigate nonconformances and implement corrective and preventive actions; Ensure proper control of calibration records, uncertainty budgets, and measurement documentation.
Quality and Continuous Improvement: Monitor laboratory performance metrics and implement process improvements; Support measurement uncertainty evaluations and method validation activities; Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, quality, and customer service.
Assist in equipment qualification, maintenance, and procurement activities.
Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements; Maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces in accordance with established standards.
Qualifications/Experience
Education: Good levels of Mathematics and English.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in dimensional metrology or calibration laboratory operations;
Experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory environment.
Experience with measurement uncertainty analysis and method validation preferred.

Pay: £29,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
