Job Summary
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Bank Staff to join the JC Little Explorers team at our Southbourne setting. This is a flexible, as-and-when role, stepping in to cover staff holiday, absences, sickness and other short-notice gaps as they arise - there is no fixed contract, and shifts will vary based on the nursery's needs. You'll help create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for our children, bringing energy, care and professionalism whenever you're on shift. It's a great opportunity to gain nursery experience, build relationships with our team and children, and be a reliable, familiar face they can count on.
Responsibilities
- Assist full-time nursery staff in supervising and engaging children during daily activities, playtime, meals, and rest periods
- Support the implementation of age-appropriate educational activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development
- Maintain a safe and clean environment by adhering to health and safety and safeguarding standards at all times
- Communicate effectively with children, colleagues, and parents to foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere
- Help manage classroom routines and ensure children's needs are promptly addressed
- Support the team in setting up learning materials and maintaining equipment in good condition
- Be available at short notice and flexible in covering shifts across different days and times, in line with holiday, sickness and absence cover needs
Qualifications
- Qualified nursery staff strongly preferred (Level 2/3 Early Years qualification or equivalent)
- Paediatric first aid certification preferred
- Safeguarding children training preferred (or willingness to complete before starting shifts)
- Previous experience working with children or in a childcare setting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and childcare best practices
- Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to connect positively with children and team members
- Valid driving license is preferred for supporting nursery transportation needs or outreach activities
- Ability to work flexibly and respond at short notice to cover shifts as needed
- Enhanced DBS check required (or willingness to obtain one)
Pay: £12.71-£15.00 per hour
