Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Multi-Trade Skilled Maintenance Operative with strong plastering and damp experience to join our busy Maintenance and Renovations team, supporting the upkeep, repair and refurbishment of our residential property portfolio across the North West.
Plastering and damp experience is essential for this role. The successful candidate must be confident carrying out a range of plastering, remedial and damp-related works within residential properties, alongside general multi-trade maintenance and refurbishment.
This is a hands-on and varied role, primarily involving empty residential properties requiring repairs, maintenance and refurbishment. You will be expected to assess the condition of properties, identify defects, carry out appropriate remedial works and complete jobs to a high standard.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently, use their initiative, manage their own workload and take full ownership of jobs from start to completion.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out a wide range of plastering and remedial works, including patch repairs, repairing damaged plaster, skimming, rendering, making good after repairs and preparing surfaces for decoration
- Carry out damp-related works, including identifying signs of damp and moisture damage, treating mould and damp staining, removing damaged materials and preparing affected areas for repair and redecoration
- Assess damp and plastering issues within properties and identify potential underlying causes, escalating more complex structural, penetrating or rising damp issues where specialist investigation or treatment is required
- Undertake general multi-trade maintenance and refurbishment works, including joinery, decorating, flooring, minor plumbing and other property repairs
- Complete joinery works including doors, door frames, windows, skirting, architraves, flooring, shelving, cabinetry, partitions, staircases and other joinery items
- Prepare surfaces and complete internal and external decorating works, including filling, sanding, priming, undercoating and finishing where required
- Inspect properties, identify defects and potential hazards, take accurate measurements and determine the appropriate materials and works required
- Work in accordance with Health and Safety requirements, relevant British Standards, manufacturer guidance, Building Regulations and company procedures, including preparing RAMS where required
- Work collaboratively with other trades and contractors, ensuring works are coordinated effectively and completed within agreed timescales and budgets
- Maintain clean, safe and tidy work areas, protect property and contents, manage waste appropriately and provide completion photographs and relevant job information
Key Skills Required
- Proven professional experience in plastering and damp-related property repairs – this is an essential requirement
- Proven experience as a Multi-Trade Operative, Maintenance Operative, Joiner or in a similar property maintenance/refurbishment role
- Strong plastering skills, including experience with patch repairs, skimming, rendering, making good and repairing damaged plaster
- Practical experience dealing with damp and moisture-related issues in residential properties, including mould, damp staining and damaged plaster
- Ability to assess the condition of walls and surfaces, identify potential causes of damp and determine appropriate remedial works or when specialist assistance is required
- Strong joinery and general maintenance skills, with experience across areas such as decorating, flooring, minor plumbing or roofing being advantageous
- Strong practical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify issues and determine appropriate solutions
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing consistent, high-quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently, manage your own workload and take ownership of jobs from start to completion
- Full UK driving licence, own van and appropriate tools required to carry out the role
