Kitchen Assistant — Permanent Full-Time
Formosa Izakaya is looking for a reliable, hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our Taiwanese/Japanese restaurant in Birmingham city centre.

- This is a permanent full-time position only.
- We are not currently recruiting for part-time, student, temporary or seasonal positions.
- Applicants must be able to commit to full-time work, including evenings and weekends where required.
- Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK.
- This is an in-person role based at our restaurant in Birmingham.
- Mandarin/Chinese or another relevant East Asian language ability is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in a Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese or other East Asian restaurant/kitchen environment is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with East Asian ingredients, food preparation and kitchen working practices would be particularly beneficial to the existing team.
- The exact working days, hours, responsibilities and pay arrangements will be discussed by the Hiring Manager with applicants selected to progress.

Main responsibilities
- Supporting chefs with food preparation.
- Preparing ingredients and basic kitchen items as instructed.
- Washing, cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and work areas.
- Keeping food preparation and storage areas clean and organised.
- Assisting with deliveries and putting stock away correctly.
- Helping maintain appropriate hygiene and food-safety standards.
- Supporting the kitchen team during busy service periods.
- Carrying out other reasonable kitchen duties as required.
What we are looking for
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Able to work effectively as part of a busy kitchen team.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Willing to learn and follow instructions.
- Good awareness of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Previous kitchen or hospitality experience is preferred.
- Experience in Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese or other East Asian restaurants is particularly desirable.
- Mandarin/Chinese or another relevant East Asian language would be an advantage and will be prioritised by the Hiring Manager where relevant to the role.
All decisions regarding suitability and progression are made by the Hiring Manager.
