Main Purpose:
To plan, deliver, and evaluate the Building Independence (BI) curriculum within The Autism Project (TAP). The role supports learners to develop skills for Preparation for Adulthood (PfA), with a primary focus on independence and progression outcomes aligned with their EHCP targets and aspirations.
You will also contribute to the wider strategic development of TAP alongside the Principal and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
As the Building Independence pathway enters its second year, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to its ongoing development and growth. With smaller learner cohorts, the focus will be on delivering high-quality, personalised support while helping to shape and expand the pathway. We are seeking someone who is excited by the opportunity to grow with the programme and influence its future direction.
The role is primarily delivered on-site within a classroom or training environment and includes supporting learners to develop independence through structured activities in the local community, such as volunteering, travel training, and accessing community-based opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery & Learner Progress
- Plan and deliver an engaging, person-centred BI curriculum
- Develop learner progression pathways aligned to EHCP outcomes
- Set and review individual targets each term
- Deliver Functional Skills (RARPA-based and accredited as appropriate)
- Support learners to progress towards exams where suitable
Assessment & Quality Assurance
- Complete baseline assessments in line with the IQA calendar
- Track and evidence learner progress consistently
- Maintain high-quality documentation and records
- Contribute to internal quality assurance (IQA) processes
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with the Functional Skills Lead and Teaching Assistant
- Partner with SaLT to deliver PSD and social skills sessions
- Contribute to wellbeing, travel training, and enrichment planning
- Support coordination across the BI pathway
Safeguarding & Pastoral Care
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL)
- Monitor learner attendance, behaviour, and risk
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
- Maintain effective communication with parents/carers
EHCP & Reviews
- Contribute to and increasingly chair Annual Reviews
- Support high-quality reporting and learner documentation
Operational Responsibilities
- Liaise with external partners and stakeholders
- Support transport and timetable coordination
- Promote positive learner engagement and outcomes
General Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and organisational policies
- Participate in meetings, supervisions, and CPD
- Promote CareTrade’s values and reputation
- Build positive relationships across the organisation and community
- Carry out additional duties appropriate to the role
