Herdsperson – Near Kibworth/Fleckney, Leicestershire
We’re looking for a Herdsperson to join our family-run farm, helping manage our dairy and suckler herds while maintaining high standards of animal welfare.
Our Farm
We operate a mixed livestock farm across 350 acres of owned and tenanted land. Our enterprise includes a suckler herd and 140 autumn-calving Holstein cows averaging 8,000l, supplying Arla. The herd is milked twice daily through a 10/20 herringbone parlour.
Recent investment in new livestock housing, silage clamps and machinery enables us to efficiently manage all silaging, slurry handling and general farm work in-house.
The Role
Working closely with the owners, you’ll support the day-to-day management of the herd. Experience with AI and foot trimming is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
Key responsibilities include:
· Herd health, welfare and daily stock care
· Milking as part of a rota
· Youngstock, dry cow and calving management
· Grazing management
· Record keeping and compliance using Sum-It / Cow Manager
· Basic machinery operation, including feeding and scraping
· Working with vets, nutritionists and other advisers
· General farm maintenance and stockperson duties
About You
You’ll have practical livestock experience, a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellent animal care. We’re looking for someone who communicates well, works effectively as part of a team, takes responsibility and is keen to develop their skills.
