Senior Bid Writer – Projects (MEP)
Location: Hybrid role. Office based 2-days per week at one of our bid-team base branches (Walsall or Solihull) based on home location

The Role
We are seeking an experienced bid writer to lead the production of high-quality submissions for mechanical, electrical, renewable and fabric services, predominantly in the Facilities Management and Independent & Supported Living sectors. This role involves managing the entire bid process from allocation to client submission and interview/presentation. You will collaborate with operational, commercial, and estimating teams to develop compliant and strategically aligned proposals that represent Dodd Group’s technical ability, collaborative approach, and commitment to quality and sustainability. The successful candidate will have experience in public sector procurement, M&E, or construction sectors and be confident managing multiple bids within tight deadlines. The role will suit someone who can build strong relationships with operational teams, remain composed under pressure and maintain consistency and quality throughout complex bid processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the end-to-end proposal process for mechanical, electrical, renewables and fabric opportunities
- Develop submission strategies, win themes and tailored client messaging
- Coordinate multidisciplinary input from estimating, operations, commercial and other stakeholders
- Produce high-quality written content for technical responses including social value
- Ensure submissions are compliant with client requirements, governance standards and deadlines
- Chair bid kick-off meetings, progress reviews and final sign-off sessions
- Maintain bid programmes, action trackers and submission schedules
- Work closely with pre-construction and operational teams to develop innovative and value-engineered solutions
- Support the preparation of client presentations, interviews and clarification responses
- Manage external contributors including graphics, print and specialist consultants where required
- Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and post-tender reviews
- Maintain and develop bid library content, case studies and supporting collateral
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in a bid writer role
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in English, or other subject requiring a high standard of writing
- Previous experience working within M&E, maintenance, property services or construction for the public sector
- Knowledge of supported living and specialist housing environments would be an advantage
- Excellent written communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to translate technical solutions into clear, client-focused proposal content
- Strong organisational and project management capability
- Experience working with multidisciplinary bid teams and senior stakeholders
- High attention to detail with strong commercial awareness
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledge of client portals
- Knowledge of social value, sustainability and decarbonisation requirements within public sector procurement
Desirable
- APMP qualification or equivalent bid/proposal management training
- Experience within Tier 1 contractor, FM provider or specialist housing environments
- Proven experience in a bid writing role
