Job Summary:
The Transport Planner is responsible for the daily planning and coordination of transport operations to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective delivery of services. The role involves scheduling skip and hook loader work, planning tractor unit routes, managing container load slots, coordinating third-party transport, and ensuring vehicle maintenance compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan daily skip and hook loader jobs to ensure efficient use of vehicles and drivers.
- Plan and optimise tractor unit routing to meet operational and customer requirements.
- Schedule and manage container load slots to ensure timely loading and delivery.
- Coordinate and plan third-party transport movements for Northern Ireland and UK routes.
- Monitor vehicle availability and plan truck maintenance, inspections, and servicing.
- Check and verify driver maintenance sheets and defect reports.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with company procedures and legal requirements.
- Communicate daily plans clearly to drivers, yard staff, and management.
- Work closely with the Transport Manager to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Maintain accurate planning records and update transport systems.
- Respond to operational issues and adjust plans as required.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience in transport planning, logistics, or fleet coordination preferred.
- Good understanding on Northern Ireland roads and routing
- Knowledge of skip, hook loader, or container transport operations desirable.
- Good understanding of UK transport regulations and driver compliance.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Good communication skills with drivers, customers, and management.
- Competent in computer systems and transport planning software.
