SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE POST
· To establish and develop the Library and to promote a ‘whole school’ reading ethos, including reading for pleasure.
· To select and purchase books and e‑books within the library budget, including ordering in selections for specific events or department requests
· To catalogue, classify, access and process books and e-books.
· To create and manage a small team of ‘Student Librarians’
· To assist with literacy interventions, including leading small group or 1-1 reading. To assist students and staff with enquiries
· To promote a love of literature amongst all ages through the organisation of events and visiting speakers, eg Book Fair, author visits, Chichester Literature Quiz
· To compile book lists for all age groups as well as lists on specific themes when requested by departments or individuals.
· To promote the use of the Library as an essential and valuable resource among members of staff.
· To attend meetings organised by the School Library Service.
· To keep up to date with new developments and to liaise with other librarians.
· To provide a pleasant, interesting area where pupils feel they can work comfortably.
· To provide displays of material which stimulate interest in different genres/by different authors
· To develop links with department staff, particularly the English Department and Inclusion to support literacy.
· To construct an annual development plan for the library.
· In liaison with the Co-ordinator of Vocational Education, to maintain a careers section of the library including cataloging, classifying and processing booklets, books and using the Library software.
· To provide First Aid support to the students and staff of the school in the absence of the school nurse or under her guidance at busy periods. Full training will be provided.
· To undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade as and when required by SLT
· To support the school directly and/or indirectly in the fulfilment of its Catholic mission, and to identify with our Catholic/Christian ethos and behavioural standards.
