As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced and proactive Website Operations Manager to join our team, taking ownership of the hosting, maintenance, technical support and day-to-day management of our clients’ websites, working closely with our web developer and wider team.

Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £26,000 – £45,000 (depending on age and experience)
This is a fully office-based, in-house position at our studio in Royston, Hertfordshire. We are looking for someone who is local to the area and able to work from our office as part of the wider team.
Please only apply if you are based within a reasonable commuting distance of Royston and are able to work in-house. This is not a remote or fully hybrid position.
Role Overview
The Website Operations Manager is responsible for the ongoing management, maintenance and technical support of a diverse portfolio of client websites, predominantly built on WordPress and Elementor.
The role focuses on keeping websites secure, stable, up to date and performing at their best, while managing hosting, maintenance, technical issues, updates, staging environments and website-related support. Working closely with our Web Developer and wider team, they will help coordinate website changes, troubleshoot issues, support new builds and manage the process of moving websites through development, testing and launch.
This is a hands-on, operational role for someone who is technically minded, highly organised and confident taking ownership of website maintenance and technical support, while knowing when to troubleshoot independently and when to bring in specialist development support.
Key Responsibilities
Website Management & Maintenance
- Manage and maintain a portfolio of WordPress websites, primarily built using Elementor.
- Carry out regular WordPress core, theme, plugin and Elementor updates.
- Monitor website health, performance, uptime and security.
- Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day website issues, bugs and plugin conflicts.
- Manage website content updates and technical amendments as required.
- Ensure websites remain secure, stable, responsive and performing effectively.
- Carry out regular checks to identify potential issues before they impact clients.
- Ensure websites follow good practice across performance, SEO fundamentals and accessibility basics.
Hosting & Technical Operations
- Take ownership of the day-to-day hosting and technical management of client websites.
- Work closely with our third-party hosting provider to manage hosting, server and website-related issues.
- Coordinate hosting setup, migrations and changes.
- Manage DNS changes, SSL certificates, backups and restore processes.
- Set up and manage staging and development environments.
- Coordinate deployments between staging and live environments.
- Monitor website uptime, performance and technical health.
- Maintain accurate records of hosting, domain, DNS and other key technical information.
- Act as the main point of contact between the agency, hosting provider and internal team for technical website matters.
Website Support & Troubleshooting
- Act as the first point of contact for website-related technical issues within the agency.
- Investigate and resolve issues across WordPress, Elementor, plugins, forms, integrations and website functionality.
- Diagnose issues and determine whether they can be resolved internally or require developer/third-party support.
- Work alongside the Web Developer on more complex development tasks and technical issues.
- Liaise with third-party plugin, hosting and software providers where required.
- Keep clients and internal teams informed about technical issues and resolutions where appropriate.
- Provide practical advice on website functionality, limitations and best practice.
Website Build & Development Support
- Support the Web Developer with new website builds, rebuilds and redesigns.
- Assist with setting up WordPress websites, staging environments and required plugins.
- Implement straightforward website updates, page changes and content amendments using WordPress and Elementor.
- Support the implementation of supplied designs and layouts where appropriate.
- Assist with website testing and quality assurance throughout the build process.
- Check websites across desktop, tablet and mobile before launch.
- Support the Web Developer with troubleshooting, testing and minor enhancements.
- Work across a range of website types, including:
- E-commerce websites using WooCommerce
- Portfolio and brochure websites
- Global and multi-region websites
- Multi-language websites using WPML
Website Launches & Project Support
- Support the Project Coordinator and Web Developer with website projects from build through to launch.
- Help ensure project tasks relating to websites are completed on time and in the correct order.
- Manage technical elements of the website launch process.
- Coordinate pre-launch checks, testing and deployment.
- Maintain and follow website go-live checklists covering functionality, performance, security and SEO fundamentals.
- Carry out post-launch checks to ensure websites are working correctly once live.
- Support website migrations, rebuilds and domain or hosting changes.
Performance, Security & Best Practice
- Monitor and improve website performance, including caching and image optimisation.
- Ensure security plugins, backups and monitoring tools are correctly configured.
- Monitor and respond to website security issues and vulnerabilities.
- Identify opportunities to improve website speed, stability and reliability.
- Carry out routine website health checks.
- Ensure websites are maintained in line with current WordPress and web best practice.
- Maintain documentation covering key website configurations and technical information.
Client & Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with the Project Coordinator, Digital Marketing Lead, Account Managers, designers and the Web Developer.
- Provide technical input when website work is being scoped or planned.
- Help translate client requests into practical website solutions.
- Advise internal teams and clients on website capabilities, limitations and best practice.
- Provide clear, jargon-free explanations of technical issues where required.
- Support ongoing website optimisation and improvements after launch.
Process & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain consistent internal processes for website maintenance and support.
- Keep website, hosting and technical documentation up to date.
- Help improve internal website management, maintenance and QA processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, tools and technical standards.
- Keep up to date with WordPress, Elementor, website security, performance and hosting best practice.
- Help ensure the agency maintains a consistent and reliable approach to website operations across all clients.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Proven experience managing and maintaining WordPress websites, ideally within a creative, digital or agency environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with WordPress and Elementor.
- Good understanding of WordPress architecture, plugins and themes.
- Experience managing website hosting, staging and live environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of website security, performance and maintenance best practice.
- Experience working with DNS, SSL, backups and website migrations.
- Comfortable managing multiple websites and client requirements simultaneously.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and proactive.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with both technical and non-technical people.
- Comfortable working independently while knowing when to escalate more complex issues to the Web Developer or third-party specialists.
Desirable
- Experience with WooCommerce and e-commerce websites.
- Basic knowledge of CSS, PHP or JavaScript.
- Experience with website integrations and forms, including HubSpot, Mailchimp or similar.
- Experience working with global or multi-language websites.
- Familiarity with WPML.
- Understanding of SEO fundamentals and on-page optimisation.
- Familiarity with website accessibility and WCAG basics.
- Experience with website performance tools and optimisation.
- Experience working with Cloudflare or similar services.
- Experience working with third-party hosting providers.
