The Benefits team is currently seeking a full-time Clerical Assistant to provide essential administrative support across the Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support service. This role involves supporting the accurate and timely processing of claims within a busy, customer-focused environment.
Main Responsibilities
As a Clerical Assistant, you will provide administrative and operational support across the Benefits and Local Council Tax Support service, including:
- Processing routine correspondence, forms and customer documentation.
- Supporting the assessment of Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support claims by gathering, checking and verifying required evidence.
- Updating and maintaining accurate benefit records and case files.
- Handling incoming and outgoing customer calls, emails and written enquiries in a professional manner.
- Assisting customers by providing clear guidance on evidence requirements, claim processes and general benefit-related queries.
- Signposting customers to appropriate services, teams or external agencies when required.
- Carrying out general clerical duties such as indexing, data input, filing and maintaining electronic records.
- Supporting the wider team to ensure service standards, performance targets and deadlines are met.

The successful candidate will have:
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Accurate data entry skills and a good eye for detail
- Confident verbal and written communication abilities
- Basic numeracy skills and the ability to work with financial information
- A positive, team-focused approach
- The ability to work to deadlines in a busy, performance-driven environment
