ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Manager to lead our 2-bed Children's Home. We're looking for someone ready for a new and rewarding challenge, offering a competitive salary of £45,000–£55,000 per annum.
As Registered Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the children's home and will be accountable for delivering a high quality of service provision, encompassing the care, welfare, safety and security of every child and young person in our care.
You will support, lead and manage a team of staff who provide protection and support children with their physical, psychological, emotional and social development.
PERSON SPECIFICATION — ESSENTIAL
- A minimum of Level 3 Diploma in Children's Residential Service or equivalent.
- Experience of working in a Senior or Strategic Role within a children's residential care setting.
- GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C or above.
- Physically fit.
- Resilient, enthusiastic and motivated.
- Proven ability to lead staff teams, with line management experience including conducting supervisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A calm, approachable manner; adaptable and non-judgemental.
- Able to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Knowledge of Child Protection & Safeguarding.
- Ability to drive, with a current driving licence.
PERSON SPECIFICATION — DESIRABLE
- NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Previous experience as a Deputy Manager or Registered Manager within a registered children's residential care service in England.
- Relevant additional or transferable skills and training, such as First Aid.
- Strong knowledge of relevant children's legislation and regulations, including the Children Act, the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, and the Quality Standards.
- Understanding and practical knowledge of therapeutic approaches to childcare.
- Knowledge of the English child protection and safeguarding system, including relevant legislation and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- Experience preparing and supporting services for Ofsted inspections.
- Experience in quality assurance, auditing and continuous service improvement.
- Experience managing complex behaviours and supporting staff in challenging situations.
- Experience managing rotas, staffing budgets and the day-to-day operation of a residential children's service.
- Experience working collaboratively with local authorities and multi-disciplinary professionals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Keeping an up-to-date register of all young people admitted, transitioned to another provision, or discharged from the service.
- Ensuring Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to across the home.
- Maintaining operational staffing levels, liaising with the HR team to arrange and assist in interviewing new staff.
- Ensuring you and your staff work in accordance with the Statement of Purpose and Function of the home; updating and continuously improving the Statement of Purpose, Young Person's Guide, policies and practice standards, seeking approval and communicating changes as appropriate.
- Demonstrating effective leadership to direct and support the staff team in delivering person-centred childcare, working towards the best outcomes for each young person.
- Managing, supervising and mentoring staff; organising work patterns and training, and conducting and recording regular supervisions and appraisals.
- Demonstrating working knowledge of, implementing, adhering to and guiding staff on the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Children Act 1989 & 2004, the Care Standards Act 2000, Equal Opportunities policies, National Quality Standards for Children's Homes, and Local Authority Child Protection Procedures, including any subsequent legislative changes.
- Demonstrating working knowledge of Ofsted inspection guidelines, promptly implementing recommendations following an inspection, and providing timely notification of significant events or changes within the home, including completion of Regulation 45 reports on time.
- Working cohesively and in partnership with team members and other professionals (social workers, police, education and health) to contribute to and monitor multidisciplinary assessment of children's needs, supporting children to reach their full potential as outlined in their care plans, in accordance with P4F HomeCare Champions policies and procedures, Local Authority instructions and relevant legislation.
- Ensuring Local Authority social workers are notified of all significant events, incidents, important changes and physical interventions within 24 hours.
- Ensuring young people receive a sensitive residential service which best meets their individual social, racial, psychological, educational, cultural, physical identity and health care needs, in line with the Statement of Purpose.
- Ensuring the home is fit for purpose by meeting Fire Regulations and Health and Safety Regulations, and promptly addressing Quality Assurance and Regulation 44 report action points; keeping appropriate records and ensuring fire drill procedures are followed in line with P4F HomeCare Champions policies and procedures.
- Managing performance and development through regular staff supervisions and the annual appraisal process, promoting a culture of self-awareness and understanding, and working in partnership with the Responsible Individual, Directors and Human Resources to address any issues of poor performance or misconduct.
- Participating effectively in the on-call duty system.
- Completing appropriate training, including the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management, within the required timeframes, and maintaining an up-to-date training record.
- Representing the service to Local Authorities and at panels, conference meetings and strategy groups; analysing trends and quality assurance documentation to continually improve standards for young people in our care.
- Undertaking other duties as may be deemed appropriate from time to time.
