We are seeking an enthusiastic and practical Laboratory Technician to join our Industrial Materials Laboratory in Manchester. The laboratory tests geosynthetic materials and waterproof membranes to ensure our clients’ products meet relevant industry standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting mechanical, hydraulic and durability testing in accordance with BS EN, ISO, ASTM, AS and internal test methods.
- Preparing, cutting, labelling and testing specimens using hand tools and laboratory equipment.
- Accurately calculating, recording, interpreting and reporting test results.
- Carrying out basic equipment maintenance and calibration checks.
- Maintaining quality system records, including calibration records, worksheets, data records, SOPs and measurement uncertainty documentation, in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.
- Receiving, inspecting and logging incoming samples and coordinating with couriers where required.
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately and in accordance with company procedures and quality standards.
- Working closely with the Customer Service Team to ensure effective communication and timely completion of testing.
- Supporting continuous improvement and maintaining a clean, organised and efficient laboratory.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- A-Level qualifications (or equivalent) in science, textiles, mathematics, engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when preparing specimens and recording results.
- Good written English, numeracy and computer literacy.
- The ability to understand and follow technical instructions, procedures and quality requirements.
- A logical and enquiring approach, with good problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also working independently when required.
- A professional, helpful and efficient approach when dealing with clients and colleagues.
- A flexible, willing and hands-on approach to laboratory work.
This is a physically demanding role involving regular lifting, moving and preparation of rolls and samples. The work can be repetitive and dirty, so candidates must be comfortable working in a hands-on laboratory environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy, safety and quality.
Pay: £26,436.00 per year
