Job Overview
We are seeking a time-served, electrically qualified Multi-Skilled Engineer to support operations within a fast-paced FMCG / food manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high-speed production and packaging equipment, ensuring maximum uptime, food safety compliance, and continuous improvement across site operations.
Salary: TBD at point of interview (Remuneration in the region of £42,000 to £46,000 Depending on experience).
Shift based: 3 shift rotating.
Overtime/ weekend work available
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Maintenance & Repair
- Perform complex electrical fault finding and repairs on production and packaging machinery
Mechanical Maintenance
- Carry out mechanical maintenance on conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, and packaging equipment, including row aligners, horizontal form, fill and seal.
- Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in automated production lines
- Replace and service bearings, belts, chains, and other wear components
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Execute PPM schedules to minimise downtime and ensure equipment reliability
- Support asset care and continuous improvement strategies
Reactive Maintenance
- Respond rapidly to breakdowns in a high-volume production environment
- Diagnose and resolve faults efficiently to reduce downtime and product loss
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to strict health & safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Ensure compliance with electrical standards (e.g. BS 5266) and site regulations
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and HACCP compliance
- Follow hygiene protocols including working in clean or controlled environments
Documentation
- Accurately log all maintenance work within a CMMS system
- Complete shift reports and support audit requirements (e.g. BRC / food safety audits)
- Diagnose faults on control panels, single-phase and three-phase systems
- Work with PLC-controlled systems (e.g. fault finding on automated lines, sensors, and instrumentation)
- Maintain drives, motors, and control systems used in high-speed manufacturing
Essential Qualifications:
- Level 3 Electrical Engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent)
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations
- Proven experience in electrical fault finding within FMCG or food manufacturing environments
- Apprentice trained (desirable)
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Multi-skilled ability: Strong electrical bias with good mechanical knowledge
- Technical expertise: Experience with PLC systems, sensors, motors, and drives in automated environments
- Proactive mindset: Ability to identify and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste
- Attention to hygiene & quality: Understanding of food safety standards and working within strict hygiene controls
- Safety focused: Strong commitment to safe systems of work and risk assessment
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience with high-speed packaging machinery (e.g. fillers, wrappers, labellers)
- IPAF or PASMA certification
- Experience with CMMS systems
- Full, clean UK driving licence
