Autism Teaching Assistant
Supporting a child with Autism isn’t simply about assistance – it’s about understanding patience, consistency and the ability to see the world from a different perspective.
An inclusive SEND setting is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Autism Teaching Assistant with proven experience supporting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This role calls for someone who understands that every child’s needs are unique and who feels confident adapting their approach to suit individual communication styles, sensory profiles and emotional regulation needs.
This is a position where experience truly matters. The right person will bring practical strategies, calm resilience and a genuine appreciation for neurodiversity.
What this role involves:
· Providing 1:1 or small-group support for pupils with autism
· Implementing structured routines and personalised support plans
· Using strategies such as visual timetables, PECS, social stories or sensory regulation techniques
· Supporting communication development and social interaction
· Managing dysregulation with patience, clarity and consistency
· Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
Qualifications & Requirements
· Minimum qualifications required – A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or a background in education or care (NVQ, CACHE, Degree or equivalent)
· Experience supporting children with SEND
· Passionate working with young children or adults with disabilities

Role Type: Full Time/Part Time/Temp – Perm
Pay Rate: £14.60 - £16.90 per hour
Working Hours
Monday – Friday
8.30am – 3.30pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
