We are seeking a committed Deputy Nursery Manager to support the Manager in leading our small private nursery with an excellent reputation in the local community. the setting, maintaining high standards, and ensuring outstanding outcomes for children. This role includes acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and supporting SENCo responsibilities.
About the Role
As Deputy Manager, you will support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day operation of the nursery, stepping into leadership when required. You will lead by example, support staff, and help maintain a safe, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Support
- Support the Nursery Manager in the daily running of the setting
- Lead the nursery in the Manager’s absence
- Support staff supervision, mentoring, and development
- Ensure staff deployment and ratios are maintained
Safeguarding (Deputy DSL)
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Support the implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures
- Respond to safeguarding concerns and maintain accurate records
- Promote a strong safeguarding culture across the nursery
SEND & Inclusion (SENCo Support)
- Support the SENCo role, helping to implement SEND support strategies
- Assist with observations, referrals, and liaison with external professionals
- Promote inclusive practice and support staff working with children with SEND
Curriculum & Quality
- Support high-quality EYFS delivery across rooms
- Monitor planning, observations, and assessments
- Support continuous improvement and quality assurance
Parent Partnership & Compliance
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers
- Support compliance with Ofsted, EYFS, health & safety, and safeguarding standards
Assist with policies, procedures, and audits
We’re Looking For
- A full and relevant HNC/SVQ Level 3 or Level 4 Management/PDA in Early Years.
- Experience in a senior practitioner, room leader, or deputy role
- Strong understanding of CFE, Pre birth to three, Realising the ambition, G.I.R.F.EC, safeguarding, and SEND
- Willingness to undertake DSL and SENCo training
- Confident communicator with strong organisational skills
- Paediatric First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
