This isn't a traditional sales role. Our customers come to us because they value expert advice. Your role will be to understand their projects, recommend the most appropriate products and become a trusted technical adviser.
Whether you're helping a homeowner choose the perfect hardwood floor or advising an architect on timber cladding for a commercial project, you'll be providing guidance that customers genuinely value.

Vastern Timber is a fourth-generation family business with over 120 years of experience and is recognised as one of the UK's leading hardwood sawmills.
We manufacture a wide range of British timber products including hardwood flooring, timber cladding, structural oak, decking and innovative engineered flooring, supplying customers throughout the UK.

The Role
Following a structured training programme, you'll become part of our friendly commercial team, gradually developing the technical knowledge needed to advise customers with confidence.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Understanding customers' projects and helping them select the most suitable products.
- Providing technical advice by telephone, email, online and face-to-face.
- Building long-term relationships with trade professionals, architects, builders and homeowners.
- Learning about timber species, flooring, cladding and construction methods.
- Working closely with our manufacturing, production and purchasing teams.
- Preparing quotations and following projects through to completion.
- Continuously developing your product and technical knowledge.
Every day is different. One conversation might involve specifying timber for a contemporary home, while the next could be helping a customer choose the perfect floor for a period property.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who enjoys learning, communicates naturally with people and takes pride in providing excellent advice.
You'll probably have:
- At least two years' experience in a customer-facing, advisory or commercial role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Confidence working with numbers and measurements
- A genuine interest in understanding technical products.
Experience in timber or construction isn't necessary. Many of our most knowledgeable people started with no previous industry experience.
Qualifications
We're interested in ability and potential rather than specific industry experience.
Typically, successful applicants will have:
- A Levels (or equivalent) or a degree.
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
