Job Description
As a Dental Surgical Nurse, you will play a key role in supporting our clinicians during surgical and restorative procedures while ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and infection control.
Surgical Assistance
- Prepare treatment rooms, surgical equipment, instruments, and materials for dental surgical procedures.
- Provide chairside assistance during dental implant surgery, oral surgery, periodontal surgery, bone grafting, sinus lifts, extractions, and other advanced dental treatments.
- Maintain a sterile surgical field and follow strict cross-infection and decontamination protocols.
- Assist with sedation procedures where appropriate and monitor patient wellbeing throughout treatment.
- Prepare surgical materials, implant components, and specialist equipment.
- Ensure all instruments are cleaned, sterilised, and maintained according to HTM 01-05 and practice protocols.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and assist clinicians with treatment documentation.
Patient Care and Support
- Welcome and reassure patients before, during, and after surgical treatment.
- Prepare patients for surgery and ensure they are comfortable throughout their visit.
- Provide clear post-operative instructions and patient education following treatment.
- Support patients during recovery and arrange follow-up appointments where required.
- Deliver an exceptional patient experience through compassionate, professional care.
Clinical and Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain surgery cleanliness and ensure compliance with CQC, GDC, and infection prevention standards.
- Assist with stock control, ordering surgical materials, implants, and consumables.
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
- Assist with digital scanning, radiography, photography, and treatment planning where appropriate.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, organised, and efficient clinical environment.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, we are seeking candidates with:
- A recognised Dental Nurse qualification and current registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
- Previous experience in implant dentistry, oral surgery, or surgical dental nursing is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
- Knowledge of cross-infection control, decontamination, and surgical protocols.
- Dental radiography qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- A positive attitude and commitment to delivering outstanding patient care.
