4. Main purpose of job
The Cleaning & Maintenance Operative is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming, and well-functioning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role combines daily cleaning duties with general building maintenance, ensuring that classrooms, offices, common areas, and facilities are presented to a high standard and that any maintenance issues are promptly addressed.
5. Maintenance duties
Carry out minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks, including:
- Replacing light bulbs and batteries etc.
- Fixing door handles, locks, and furniture etc.
- Basic painting and decorating.
- Minor plumbing repairs, such as replacing taps or unblocking drains.
- Conduct regular inspections of the building and grounds.
- Set up classrooms, meeting rooms, and event spaces as required.
- Liaise with external contractors for specialist repairs and maintenance work.
- Monitor and maintain cleaning and maintenance equipment.
- Ensure outdoor areas, entrances, and walkways are clean, tidy, and safe.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance tasks and emergency repairs where necessary.
6. Cleaning duties
- Clean rooms, offices, common areas, staff rooms and toilets.
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors as required.
- Empty waste bins and dispose of rubbish appropriately.
- Replenish cleaning supplies, soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Clean windows, doors, furniture, and fixtures.
- Ensure all school premises are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Report any health and safety concerns or cleaning issues to management.
- Follow safe handling procedures for cleaning chemicals and equipment.

- Comply with all school health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure fire exits, corridors, and emergency routes always remain clear.
- Report hazards, accidents, and maintenance issues promptly.
- Support the school's commitment to safeguarding students and staff.
- Be familiar with the school’s Safeguarding policy and Prevent strategy

10. Working Hours
Monday-Friday 10.30-19.00 / High season 10:15-19:15 with a 45-minute lunch break – please refer to the school calendar regarding half day Fridays Nov/Dec/Jan. Flexible working hours are possible. Opportunities for overtime and TOiL.
11. Holidays
20 days paid per annum including 8 national holidays (TOTAL 28). Staff may be requested to work some bank holidays.
On appointment 20 days + 8 national holidays
After 1-year service 21 days + 8 national holidays
After 3-year service 22 days + 8 national holidays
After 5-year service 23 days + 8 national holidays
After 7-year service 24 days + 8 national holidays
