Job Overview: We are seeking a resilient and hardworking individual to join our team as a Plant Hire Valeter. This role is physically demanding and requires a strong work ethic to clean, inspect, and prepare heavy plant machinery and equipment (such as excavators and other heavy-duty plant vehicles) for hire. The successful candidate must be prepared to work in all weather conditions, as the role involves outdoor work in adverse weather. You will be expected to ensure machinery is in top condition for customer use, even in challenging conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cleaning and Preparing Plant Equipment:
- Perform thorough cleaning of plant machinery and equipment internally to ensure it meets the required standards for hire.
- Use high-pressure washers and other cleaning tools as per standard operating procedures, ensuring all machinery is thoroughly cleaned and presentable.
2. Maintaining Equipment:
- Ensure all plant equipment is maintained in a safe, clean, and operational condition, ready for immediate hire.
- Report any mechanical or safety issues with the plant equipment to the maintenance team for prompt repair.
3. Health & Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols while cleaning and handling machinery, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow safe systems of work and ensure compliance with industry safety standards at all times.
- Report any unsafe practices, near misses, or accidents immediately, contributing to a culture of safety within the team.
4. Working in Adverse Weather Conditions:
- Be prepared to work in all types of weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, and cold temperatures, as plant machinery cleaning and inspection is typically done outdoors.
- Ensure all work is carried out to the highest standards, even in challenging environmental conditions, maintaining safety and quality regardless of the weather.
5. Customer Service and Quality Control:
- Ensure all machinery is cleaned, checked, and ready for hire to the highest standards to meet customer expectations.
- Provide feedback on operational improvements and identify areas for efficiency or quality enhancement.
6. Teamwork and Collaboration:
- Work as part of a dynamic team, assisting with other tasks in the workshop as required.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure smooth operations and a high level of service.
- Cover for Jet Washer from time to time when required.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in plant hire, vehicle valeting, or a similar role is desirable, but not essential. The ability to learn quickly and adapt to the physical demands of the job is essential.
- Physical Fitness: Must be capable of lifting heavy equipment, working long hours, and performing strenuous physical tasks.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail in inspecting machinery for damage, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: A strong understanding of health and safety procedures, especially when working with plant equipment.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from management.
- PPE Compliance: Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times when working with plant machinery and cleaning equipment.
- Work Ethic: A strong, proactive work ethic and the ability to work independently when required.
- Resilience: Must be comfortable working outdoors in challenging and adverse weather conditions, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
Working Conditions:
- The role involves working outdoors, often in harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, wind, and cold temperatures.
- The work is physically demanding and will require the ability to lift, bend, and move heavy objects.
- Shift work may be required, including overtime and weekend work, especially during busy periods.
