Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Purchasing Assistant to join our team. Based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, this role is vital in supporting our procurement processes and ensuring the seamless supply of materials essential for our manufacturing operations. The successful applicant will help source goods and services, raise and track purchase orders, maintain accurate supplier and product records, and ensure that stock and materials are available when needed. The role requires strong organisation, attention to detail, and effective communication with suppliers and internal teams. The purchasing assistant will be working closely with the Purchasing Manager, internal departments, suppliers, and external service providers to ensure purchasing activity is accurate, timely, and aligned with business needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Raise, process, and track purchase orders accurately and in line with company procedures
Liase with suppliers to confirm prices, delivery dates, availability, and other updates
Monitor stock levels and identify purchasing requirements to support business operations
Follow up on delayed, missing, or incorrect deliveries and escalate issues where necessary
Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier details, contracts, invoices, and product information
Support the resolution of invoice queries, price discrepancies, returns, and delivery issues
Research new suppliers, products, and pricing trends to support cost effective purchasing decisions
Assist with supplier performance monitoring and help maintain positive supplier relationships
Prepare basic reports, cost comparisons, and purchasing data for managers and colleagues
Work closely with internal departments such as finance, warehouse operation and sales to meet purchasing needs
Provide general administrative support to the purchasing team as required
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, stock control, administration is required for this position
Good understanding of purchasing processes, supplier confirmation, and order administration.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when handling data, orders, prices, and records
Strong organisational skllls with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage deadlines
Confident written and verbal communication skills
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word
Ability to build effective working relationships with suppliers and colleagues
Proactive approach to problem- solving and willingness to learn
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment
QUALIFICATIONS
GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths are desirable
A qualification in business administration, procurement, supply chain, or a related subject would be advanageous
Experience using purchasing, stock control, or ERP systems would be beneficial
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

Contribute to continuous improvement within the purchasing function
Demonstratable experience of progressing and developing within the role
