Role Purpose
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving operational excellence through the implementation of lean manufacturing principles, process optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives across assembly and production operations.
This hands-on role will focus on developing and improving manufacturing processes, production layouts, assembly methods, quality performance, and manufacturing systems. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to deliver sustainable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Process Improvement
- Review, analyse, and improve existing manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Develop and implement new production methods to enhance efficiency, quality, safety, and productivity.
- Establish and maintain standardised work practices.
- Identify and eliminate waste using Lean Manufacturing principles.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Lead continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations.
- Apply Lean tools including: 5S, 7 Wastes, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Kanban, PDCA, Poka Yoke, Root Cause Analysis, (RCA, Kaizen, Standardised Work
- Deliver measurable improvements in productivity, quality, lead time, and cost.
Production Layout & Process Optimisation
- Conduct process mapping and Value Stream Mapping activities.
- Analyse shop-floor layouts, workflows, and material movement.
- Design and implement improved production layouts and manufacturing cells.
- Support factory re-layout and relocation projects.
Quality & Problem Solving
- Work with Production and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Introduce mistake-proofing solutions to improve quality and process repeatability.
- Support defect reduction, scrap reduction, and process capability improvements.
Production Engineering & NPI
- Design and implement jigs, fixtures, tooling, and assembly aids.
- Utilise fabrication, outsourced manufacture, and 3D printing where appropriate.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
- Provide Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM/A) input during product development.
Manufacturing Systems & Technology
- Create and maintain assembly instructions, visual work standards, and process documentation.
- Support ERP system maintenance including BOMs and routings.
- Assist with the implementation of manufacturing software, data collection systems, and new technologies.
- Support capital equipment projects including specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
