Axcis are working with a welcoming primary school in Harold Wood, Havering, who are seeking a confident SEND Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a male pupil from September.
The pupil can struggle to remain focused, follow instructions and manage his behaviour during lessons. He requires a consistent adult who can provide clear direction, break tasks into manageable steps and help him develop more positive routines around learning.
The school is looking for someone personable and resilient who can build a positive relationship with the pupil while maintaining firm, fair boundaries. The school is accessible from Harold Wood, Romford, Gidea Park, Hornchurch, Brentwood and surrounding areas.
About the Role:
You will provide consistent support throughout the school day, helping the pupil remain engaged, follow routines and respond more positively to adult direction.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a male primary-aged pupil
- Helping the pupil remain focused during lessons
- Giving clear instructions and breaking tasks into manageable steps
- Redirecting attention when the pupil becomes distracted
- Supporting the pupil to follow classroom routines and expectations
- Using positive reinforcement to encourage appropriate behaviour
- Maintaining firm, fair and consistent boundaries
- Applying de-escalation strategies when the pupil becomes frustrated
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive decision-making
- Helping the pupil develop independence and confidence
- Supporting transitions and less-structured parts of the school day
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral staff
- Recording behaviour, progress and relevant observations accurately
- Maintaining strong safeguarding and professional standards
What We're Looking For:
- Previous experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
- Experience providing 1:1 support within a primary school
- Experience supporting children with attention, behaviour or emotional-regulation needs
- Strong behaviour-management and de-escalation skills
- Confidence giving clear direction and maintaining boundaries
- Ability to remain calm when behaviour becomes challenging
- A patient, resilient and consistent personality
- Ability to build rapport without losing professional authority
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
- Full-time availability from September
- Commitment to a long-term role
