About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join Balfour Beatty’s Major Projects team, based in Derby, supporting a flagship Rolls-Royce programme. This is a key opportunity to play a central role within the project Commercial team, contributing to the successful delivery of a high-profile, technically complex scheme.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take responsibility for managing all costs and commercial performance within your area, from early-stage planning through to final account. You’ll work closely with the wider project team and supply chain to drive value, control risk, and ensure commercial outcomes are delivered in line with project objectives.
With a track record across civil engineering or infrastructure projects, you’ll bring strong commercial awareness and the ability to operate in a complex, secure environment—supporting delivery while helping to mentor and develop junior members of the commercial team.

- Managing all costs and income within your area of responsibility, with a focus on maximising value while maintaining quality and performance.
- Taking ownership of the commercial management of ECI task orders and/or site enabling works on the Rolls-Royce Fissile Programme, with progression into full civil engineering delivery.
- Supporting the successful commercial delivery of task orders from early-stage involvement through to final account.
- Leading on day-to-day commercial activities, working closely with the project team and supply chain to ensure effective cost control and risk management.
- Mentoring and supporting junior commercial staff, contributing to their professional development and progression.
- Maintaining high professional standards, including Chartership (RICS, ICES or CIOB) and ongoing CPD.

Qualifications (essential or working towards):
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent knowledge)
- Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
- CSCS card (Professionally Qualified Person)
Experience and capability:
- Experience working on cost-reimbursable contracts, ideally NEC4 Option E
- Ability to obtain BPSS clearance as a minimum (SC clearance preferred)
- Proven experience within civil engineering or infrastructure projects is advantageous
- Experience working in complex or secure construction environments is beneficial, but not essential
