Kookaburra Veterinary Practice is a new, independent, family-owned small animal veterinary practice opening in Easington Colliery in November/December.
We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Receptionist to join our team and help us create a welcoming, friendly and professional practice from the very beginning.
As the first point of contact for our clients and their pets, you'll play an important part in making sure everyone who comes through our doors feels listened to, supported and well cared for.

- Is friendly, approachable and confident communicating with clients
- Has excellent customer service and organisational skills
- Is comfortable working in what can sometimes be a busy and emotional environment
- Can remain calm, compassionate and professional when dealing with difficult situations
- Works well as part of a small team and is happy to muck in when needed
- Has good computer and administrative skills
- Has a good sense of humour – we take patient care seriously, but we also want to enjoy coming to work!
- Has practical animal handling experience or relevant training – preferred but not essential
- Has knowledge or experience of pet insurance claims – an advantage
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming clients and their pets to the practice
- Answering telephone and online enquiries
- Booking and managing appointments
- Taking payments and handling client accounts
- Assisting clients with pet insurance claims
- Communicating with vets and the wider clinical team
- Maintaining accurate client and patient records
- Helping to keep reception and client areas organised and welcoming
- Providing compassionate support to clients, including during difficult and sensitive situations
- Appropriate animal handling where required and within your training and experience
Hours
This is a full-time position of 37-40 hours per week, worked over 5 days.
Some flexibility will be required to help provide additional cover during colleagues' annual leave and other periods of absence.
What we offer
- £12.71–£13.50 per hour, depending on experience
- In addition to bank holidays, you will receive 4 weeks’ annual leave, increasing by one additional day for each completed year of service, up to a maximum of 5 weeks’ annual leave.
- Veterinary treatment and medication at cost price
- The opportunity to join a brand-new independent practice from the beginning and help shape how we work
- A friendly, supportive, family-owned working environment
- The chance to be part of a small team where your ideas and contribution genuinely matter
We want to build a practice where excellent patient and client care goes hand in hand with a positive working environment. Two things that are particularly important to us are becoming a Cat Friendly Clinic and developing a practice with sustainability at its heart.
We're looking for someone who shares those values and would enjoy helping us build Kookaburra Veterinary Practice into an important part of the local community.

Please send your CV along with a short covering letter telling us a little about yourself, your veterinary reception experience and why you would like to join Kookaburra Veterinary Practice.
