Senior Chef / Senior CDP – Second in Command

Froth & Fries is an independent Belgian beer bar and kitchen in the heart of Bristol's Old City. We're all about brilliant beer, relaxed hospitality and seriously tasty food — with loaded fries, great burgers and sandwiches at the heart of our menu.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Chef / Senior Chef de Partie to become the second in command of our kitchen, working closely with our Kitchen Manager to deliver fantastic food and help us continue improving what we do.
This would suit someone operating at strong CDP through to Sous Chef level who wants responsibility and creative input without necessarily wanting the hours that often come with a traditional Sous Chef position.
And one fairly unusual hospitality perk: Sundays and Mondays off!
The Role
You'll be hands-on in the kitchen, taking responsibility for food quality and service while supporting the Kitchen Manager with the organisation and running of the kitchen.
You'll also be trusted to lead the kitchen in the Kitchen Manager's absence, so we're looking for someone who can take ownership, make decisions and maintain standards.
You'll be responsible for:
- Preparing and cooking consistently great-looking, great-tasting food
- Delivering our loaded fries, burgers, sandwiches and specials to a high standard
- Helping lead busy services and keeping the kitchen calm and organised
- Taking charge of the kitchen when the Kitchen Manager isn't there
- Maintaining excellent portioning, presentation and consistency
- Supporting prep planning, ordering and stock rotation
- Controlling waste and helping us achieve food-cost and GP targets
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene, allergen and due-diligence standards
- Helping train and develop other kitchen team members
- Contributing ideas for specials, dishes and improvements
- Working closely with Front of House to deliver fast, smooth service
- Helping develop the kitchen systems we need as Froth & Fries grows
Who We're Looking For
You don't need a fine-dining background. We're much more interested in someone who understands that simple food done brilliantly still requires skill, care and consistency.
You'll ideally:
- Have solid experience at CDP, Senior CDP or Sous Chef level
- Be confident running a service
- Take pride in presentation and consistency
- Be organised and comfortable with kitchen systems
- Understand stock, portion control and wastage
- Have strong food hygiene and allergen awareness
- Stay calm when the tickets start flying
- Be reliable and take responsibility
- Enjoy helping less-experienced chefs develop
- Bring ideas, energy and enthusiasm rather than simply following the routine
Most importantly, we want someone who cares about the food that leaves the kitchen. If a plate isn't right, you don't send it.
