Jas P Wilson is a UK-based supplier and engineer of forestry and firewood machinery. Established in 1964, we now serve customers throughout the UK, Europe and beyond from our base in Dalbeattie, South-West Scotland. We supply new and used Valtra tractors, Used Excavators, timber cranes and trailers, professional firewood processors and associated products, heavy duty winches and woodchippers, mulchers as well as used timber harvester & forwarder. We also manufacture the Botex range of heavy-duty timber cranes and trailers in our Dalbeattie base. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who will be working on different types of forestry machinery mainly at our main site here in Dalbeattie but occasionally working on customers machinery off site. You will receive training in the range of forest machinery products retailed by the company, and would work towards repairing, servicing and installing all types of forestry equipment. The role is a 40-hour full time, permanent position Monday to Friday 08.00-17.00
The Main Purpose of The Role Is to:
· Carry out pre-delivery inspections (PDIs), diagnose faults, repair, test, and overhaul a wide range of forestry machinery and vehicles—including firewood processors, winches, tractors, Excavators, chippers, attachments and more - to support both our customer base with machinery servicing and repairs and internal sales operations in the preparation of new and used equipment for sale.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
· Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of forestry machinery, ensuring all equipment operates safely and efficiently.
. Conduct thorough pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) to ensure machines meet quality standards before dispatch to customers.
· Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults, using appropriate diagnostic tools and methods.
· Use technical manuals and software to access parts lists, wiring diagrams, repair instructions, and troubleshooting procedures.
· Complete detailed job cards and service records, ensuring all documentation is accurate and aligned with company procedures.
· Maintain an organised and safe working environment, including regular housekeeping of workstations and adherence to health and safety practices.
· Participate in training courses and product updates to stay current with developments in forestry machinery and equipment.
· Work closely with the wider team to ensure workshop efficiency, smooth handover of jobs, and consistent service standards.
Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Must hold a full UK driving licence.
- Previous experience and knowledge in mechanical engineering/maintenance skills. Ideally from but not limited to an agricultural, Forestry, plant or HGV background.
- Be a natural problem solver and able to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues
- Be a self-motivated individual willing to work independently or as part of a team, have good communication skills.
- Possess excellent organisational skills, be resourceful and solution driven.
- Work to a good standard of accuracy and show attention to detail, within the flexible timescales required.

Salary £30 - £40k plus overtime (at time and a half) based on experience
