We are seeking an experienced and passionate Network / IT Engineer Level 4 Tutor (Skills Coach) to support and mentor apprentices undertaking the Level 4 Network Engineer Apprenticeship Standard. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop the next generation of networking professionals by combining your technical expertise with coaching, teaching, and assessment skills.
As a Level 4 Network Engineer Skills Coach, you will work with a cohort of apprentices employed across a variety of organisations throughout the UK. You will bridge the gap between academic learning and practical workplace application, ensuring apprentices develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to successfully complete their apprenticeship and pass their End-Point Assessment (EPA).
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Delivery
Deliver engaging and effective training covering advanced networking concepts, including:
- OSI and TCP/IP models
- IP addressing and subnetting
- Routing and switching technologies
- Routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
- VPN technologies
- Firewall configuration and network security
- Cloud networking and infrastructure within AWS and Microsoft Azure
Apprentice Progress Reviews
- Conduct regular tripartite reviews every 8–12 weeks with apprentices and employer line managers.
- Monitor apprentice progress and achievement.
- Ensure compliance with apprenticeship requirements, including Off-the-Job Training hours.
Portfolio Assessment & Mentoring
- Review and provide constructive feedback on apprentice portfolios.
- Assess workplace projects and evidence against the apprenticeship Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs).
- Support learners in producing high-quality evidence for assessment.
End-Point Assessment Preparation
- Prepare apprentices for EPA through coaching and guidance.
- Conduct mock professional discussions.
- Facilitate portfolio reviews and technical simulations.
- Support learners with network design and troubleshooting scenarios.
Learner Success & Retention
- Manage a caseload of approximately 30–40 apprentices.
- Identify learners requiring additional support and implement intervention strategies.
- Maintain high achievement, retention, and progression rates.
Essential Requirements
Technical Expertise
- Cisco CCNA (Routing & Switching / Enterprise) – Essential
- CompTIA Network+ – Essential
- CompTIA Security+ – Essential
- Minimum 3–5 years of industry experience as a:
‣ Network Engineer
‣ Systems Administrator
‣ Network Infrastructure Specialist
‣ Similar networking-focused technical role
Highly Desirable Certifications
- AWS Certified Advanced Networking
- Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate
- Additional Cisco professional-level certifications
Teaching & Assessing Qualifications
