Production Operative – CNC Routing / Metal Print Manufacturing
Location : Chesterfield S41
Hours : Compressed week: Mon – Thursday 6am -3:55pm (37 hrs)
Contract : Permanent contract
Salary : Depending on experience (meets NMW)
Are you practical, hands-on, and looking for a role in a fast-paced manufacturing environment? We’re looking for a Production Operative to join our team, supporting CNC routing and wider production activities within a metal printing / manufacturing environment to help deliver high-quality products to our customers on time, every time.
As part of our operations team, you’ll work with CNC routing, production and finishing equipment, prepare materials, assemble components, support production flow, and contribute to a safe, efficient workplace.
What You’ll Do
- Operate, set, and run CNC routing and associated production machinery, following approved work instructions and training.
- Load, position, secure, and remove metal materials and components safely and accurately during routing and production operations.
- Assemble components, prepare materials, and support general production tasks.
- Carry out daily safety checks on machinery before use.
- Follow production plans to ensure orders are completed and dispatched on time.
- Maintain consistent quality by following specifications, drawings, and guidelines.
- Check routed components against drawings, specifications, and tolerances, carrying out basic inspection and reporting any quality concerns.
- Work as part of a team to maximise throughput while minimising downtime and waste.
- Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
- Report any issues, delays, material shortages, or defects to your Line Manager immediately.
- Return tools, materials, and equipment to designated areas after each job.
- Follow all company policies, including Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental procedures.
- Duties may be adapted to meet business needs, in line with the scope and level of the role, as such you may be required to support with any additional reasonable tasks as directed by your Line Manager i.e. stock management etc.

What We’re Looking For
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge and understanding of CNC machinery, with particular focus on CNC routing in a metal-working or engineering environment.
- Ability to read and work from basic drawings, job specifications, measurements, and production instructions.
- Previous experience programming using CAD/CAM software is required.
- Proficient and competent with computers and computer software.
- Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
- Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and grow within the role.
- Previous hands-on experience in CNC routing, metal manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, printing, or machine operation is desirable.
