About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on Transport Supervisor to join our 3PL operation. You'll be the backbone of daily transport activity—keeping vehicles moving, drivers supported, and customers informed. This role suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment and can switch seamlessly between managing people, solving problems on the ground, and stepping into planning when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Operations
- Oversee daily transport operations, ensuring deliveries and collections run on time and within budget
- Monitor vehicle movements, driver performance, and service levels throughout each shift
- React quickly to disruptions (breakdowns, delays, driver issues) and implement contingency plans
- Support the depot manager in compliance with transport legislation, including drivers' hours, tachograph rules, and vehicle roadworthiness
- Conduct daily briefings and debriefs with drivers
Driver & Customer Engagement
- Act as the primary point of contact for drivers and subcontractors, providing support, guidance, and performance feedback
- Build strong working relationships with customers, handling queries and resolving service issues promptly
- Communicate proactively with customers regarding ETAs, delays, and delivery changes
- Support the depot manager with driver recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training initiatives
Transport Administration
- Maintain accurate records: vehicle checks, defect reports, fuel usage, PODs, and incident logs
- Ensure driver documentation (licences, CPC cards, medicals) remains current and compliant
- Assist with KPI reporting, cost analysis, and identifying efficiency improvements
- Coordinate with workshop/fleet teams on vehicle maintenance schedules
Planning Cover
- Provide holiday, absence, and peak-period cover for the Transport Planner
- Allocate vehicles and drivers to routes, balancing capacity, cost, and service requirements
- Use TMS/routing software to build and optimise delivery schedules when required
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Proven experience supervising drivers or transport operations in a 3PL, haulage, or distribution environment
- Strong knowledge of UK transport compliance (drivers' hours, O-licence obligations, tachograph regulations)
- Confident communicator—comfortable engaging with drivers, customers, and senior stakeholders
- Organised, calm under pressure, and able to juggle competing priorities
- Competent with transport management systems (Preferably Qargo) and MS Office
- Experience with route planning/scheduling software
- At least 2 years experience in Logistics
Desirable
- CPC in Road Haulage (National or International)
- FMCG and/or 3PL logistics experience
- Commercial awareness/exposure including P&L visibility and continuous improvement
- IOSH or similar health & safety qualification

Pay: £37,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
