Location: The William Cecil, Stamford

About the role
We’re looking for a warm, organised and confident Receptionist to join the team at The William Cecil.
As Receptionist, you’ll often be the first person our guests speak to — whether they are calling the hotel, arriving for a stay, joining us for dinner, attending a wedding or simply asking for directions. You’ll set the tone from the very first moment.
This is a role for someone who enjoys proper hospitality: a warm welcome, clear communication, calm organisation and making people feel genuinely looked after.
The William Cecil is a characterful hotel on the edge of the Burghley Estate, home to Milly’s Bistro, private dining, weddings, events, residents, locals and guests visiting Stamford. Reception sits at the centre of all of that, working closely with every department to keep the guest experience smooth.
You’ll balance warmth with professionalism, handle the details carefully, and help make each guest experience feel effortless.
What you’ll be doing
Your day-to-day will include:
- Welcoming every guest with warmth, confidence and genuine hospitality.
- Being the first point of contact for guests in person, over the phone and by email.
- Handling guest enquiries, reservations and requests efficiently and professionally.
- Checking guests in and out smoothly.
- Using guest names where possible and creating a personal, thoughtful experience.
- Communicating clearly with housekeeping, restaurant, kitchen, events and management.
- Supporting bedroom reservations, dinner bookings and guest notes.
- Maintaining accuracy with guest billing, payments and financial procedures.
- Promoting hotel facilities, Milly’s Bistro, private dining and local attractions.
- Offering helpful recommendations for Stamford, Burghley and the local area.
- Staying calm and professional during busy periods.
- Spotting guest issues early and helping resolve them before they become problems.
- Reporting maintenance, repair or guest-related issues promptly.
- Supporting health, safety and security standards for guests and colleagues.
- Looking for opportunities to upsell rooms, dining, experiences and return visits.
- Helping create a positive and supportive team culture.
About you
You’ll be a good fit if you:
- Have experience in hotels, reception, restaurants, customer service or hospitality.
- Enjoy speaking with guests and making people feel welcome.
- Are organised, accurate and calm under pressure.
- Communicate clearly and professionally.
- Care about details and follow-through.
- Can work well with different departments.
- Are confident using systems or happy to learn.
- Take pride in presenting yourself and the hotel well.
- Understand that reception is not just admin — it is hospitality.
You do not need to know everything on day one.
You do need to care, notice things and want to look after people properly.
Who you’ll report to
You’ll report to the Reception Manager and work closely with the wider hotel, restaurant, events, housekeeping and kitchen teams.
What’s in it for you?
- Up to £13.71 per hour including estimated service charge.
- Fair share of gratuities / service charge.
- Staff discounts across the group.
- Voucher on your birthday.
- Invite to the annual Woodford Hoedown.
- Regular days off.
- Training and support, both formal and informal.
- Employee assistance programme through Hospitality Action.
- Scope to progress across the group.
- Uniform provided.
If you enjoy warm hospitality, calm organisation and making guests feel genuinely welcome, we’d love to hear from you.
