Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our busy kitchen team. This role is essential in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene. Responsibilities include washing dishes, kitchen equipment and utensils, keeping food preparation and storage areas clean, assisting with deliveries, and supporting the kitchen team with general tasks as required. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while following food safety and health and safety procedures at all times.
Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment promptly to ensure the kitchen operates efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout all kitchen, pot wash, and storage areas.
- Support the kitchen team by assisting with basic food preparation tasks as directed by chefs.
- Receive, check, and safely store deliveries, ensuring stock is rotated in line with FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Dispose of waste, recycling, and food waste safely, keeping all disposal areas clean and organised.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist with cleaning kitchen equipment, workstations, floors, walls, and other areas as part of the daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
- Work closely with chefs and other team members to ensure the kitchen remains clean, well-stocked, and fully operational during busy service periods.
- Report any maintenance issues, breakages, or health and safety concerns to the appropriate manager.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a restaurant, catering, or kitchen environment is desirable but not essential; training will be provided for suitable candidates
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly attitude towards colleagues and customers
- Ability to work flexibly across various shifts, including weekends if required
- A genuine interest in culinary arts and customer service excellence
