About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and passionate Senior Carer to join our team and play a key role in maintaining and developing the high standards of care we provide.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who is passionate about delivering outstanding care and wants to take the next step in their career. You will continue to provide hands-on care to the people we support while also taking responsibility for mentoring staff, completing care assessments, developing care plans and risk assessments, and monitoring the quality of care being delivered.
You will become an important link between our care teams, service users and the office-based coordination team, helping to ensure that care is consistently delivered the Your Care way.
What You'll Be DoingDelivering Outstanding Care
- Provide high-quality, person-centred care to our service users.
- Lead by example and demonstrate the standards and values expected from our care team.
- Build positive relationships with the people we support and ensure their individual needs, wishes and outcomes remain at the heart of everything we do.
- Support service users to achieve their identified outcomes and maintain their independence wherever possible.
Supporting & Mentoring Staff
- Shadow and mentor new members of staff as they complete their induction and settle into their role.
- Support new carers to understand and consistently follow the Your Care way of working.
- Provide guidance, encouragement and constructive feedback to care staff.
- Identify areas where additional training, support or development may be required.
- Lead by example and act as a positive role model for the wider care team.
Assessments, Care Plans & Risk Management
- Complete care assessments for new and existing service users.
- Develop person-centred care plans that accurately reflect the needs, preferences and desired outcomes of the people we support.
- Complete and review risk assessments, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, managed and regularly reviewed.
- Ensure care documentation remains accurate, relevant and up to date.
- Work alongside service users, families and other professionals where appropriate to ensure care plans reflect changing needs.
Quality & Compliance
You will be assigned your own caseload of service users and will take responsibility for regularly reviewing and auditing the care they receive.
This will include:
- Auditing care notes and daily records.
- Reviewing MAR charts and medication documentation.
- Checking that care is being delivered in accordance with care plans and risk assessments.
- Reviewing whether the care being delivered is achieving the outcomes identified for each individual.
- Identifying gaps, concerns or areas for improvement and taking appropriate action.
- Completing field-based spot checks to observe care staff in practice.
- Providing feedback and support to staff following spot checks.
- Escalating concerns appropriately and working with the management team to resolve them.
- Supporting the organisation to maintain consistently high standards of care.
A Varied Role
No two days will necessarily be the same.
The role will involve a mixture of care delivery, office-based administration and field-based quality and compliance work.
Depending on the needs of the business, you may find yourself:
- Delivering care to a service user.
- Supporting and mentoring a new member of staff.
- Completing a care assessment.
- Writing or reviewing a care plan.
- Completing a risk assessment.
- Carrying out a spot check.
- Auditing care notes and MAR charts.
- Reviewing a service user's care and outcomes.
- Supporting an on-call coordinator.
- Providing emergency cover for an absent member of staff.
- Helping the wider team maintain safe, effective and high-quality care.
Weekend & On-Call Support
As part of this role, you will be required to work alternative weekends.
On your designated weekend, you will be on standby to provide additional support to the business and the on-call coordinators.
This may include:
- Supporting with short-notice staff absence.
- Covering a care shift where required.
- Completing an urgent spot check.
- Reviewing a service user's care needs.
- Completing an assessment.
- Supporting the on-call coordinator with care-related queries.
- Providing guidance and practical support to the care team.
The role therefore requires someone who is flexible, reliable and comfortable working across different areas of the business when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience working in a senior care role.
- Has a genuine passion for delivering outstanding, person-centred care.
- Understands the importance of safeguarding, dignity, choice and independence.
- Has strong knowledge of care planning and risk assessment.
- Is confident auditing care documentation, including care notes and MAR charts.
- Can identify when standards are not being met and take appropriate action.
- Is confident providing constructive feedback and mentoring other staff.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is organised and able to manage competing priorities.
- Is confident working independently both in the office and out in the field.
- Is flexible and willing to work evenings and alternative weekends.
- Is comfortable supporting the wider team during periods of staff absence or increased demand.
- Has a strong eye for detail and takes pride in getting things right.
