First Steps actively encourages children to explore, question, play and above all have fun whilst learning in a safe and caring environment. Children are involved in the running of the nursery and in planning their learning and is done through play. With the support of child/adult led activities and an ‘In the moment’ planning approach.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Years Room Lead to oversee and support the development of children within our nursery setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of childcare professionals, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children. This role offers an opportunity to utilise your management and leadership skills whilst making a positive impact on children's early learning experiences.
Duties
- Lead and supervise daily activities within the Early Years room, ensuring they meet developmental and educational standards.
- Plan, organise, and implement age-appropriate learning programmes in line with early childhood education principles.
- Support and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative and professional working environment.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding children's progress and wellbeing.
- Ensure compliance with all nursery policies, procedures, and legal regulations related to childcare.
- Organise staff rotas, monitor attendance, and assist in recruitment processes when necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement by evaluating activities and implementing best practices.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working with children in a nursery or early years setting.
- Strong management and leadership skills with previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of early childhood education frameworks and child development stages.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team whilst demonstrating initiative.
- Valid driving licence is desirable to facilitate transport needs for nursery activities or outings.
- Childcare qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent are essential.
- A caring attitude combined with organisational skills to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently. This role is ideal for passionate childcare professionals eager to lead by example while supporting the growth and development of young children in a nurturing environment.
Pay: £12.81-£13.95 per hour
