JOB TITLE: NEWCIS Young Carer School Liaison Officer
SALARY: £25,777 to £27,975 [dependent on qualification, plus pension contribution]
HOURS: 37 hours per week
DURATION: Funded to December 2026 (30 hrs of contract) pending new grant submission
REPORTING TO: NEWCIS Young Carer Manager
LOCATION: NEWCIS, Mold, CH7 1BH

PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To work with Flintshire schools, to provide awareness raising training to staff and information sessions to pupils around Young Carers and their roles along with increasing the schools knowledge on what services are available to them from NEWCIS and how to support them within the school environment.
To provide advice, support and services to children, young people and their families in accordance with the aims and objectives of the service. To support the wider Young Carers service at groups and events
Success in the post requires a real commitment to supporting young carers and to working in partnership, to plan and deliver services.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To liase with local schools who have not yet accessed the project to arrange and deliver training and assemblies to increase awareness of Young Carers with children, young people and staff building.
- To support schools who have already engaged in the project to ensure that they continue to be supported and are aware of Young Carers the wider project is supporting within their school and for the school to share information about those young carers at the school who are not currently registered with us.
- Maintain once a term contact with schools, offer support and training as appropriate
- Undertake an annual review with schools to offer support & identify needs.
- To upkeep any records of work undertaken and Young Carers identified.
- Undertake What Matters conversations with children, young people and their families, as and when required to identify needs and achieve positive outcomes.
- Contribute to Service development.
- Work in partnership with parents/carers to empower them and enable them to achieve personal outcomes for their children.
- To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures working with children’s services.
- Promote the single gateway to professionals, children’s services, health agencies, and community based services, taking part in young carer awareness-raising campaigns.
- Ensure priorities for young carers are in line with the outcomes required by the service specification, this includes group work, events and residentials.
- To identify and make links with other agencies and services operating in NE Wales, developing an accessible database which contains this information.
- To ensure that procedures are in place to record and report on essential information accurately including case records, in line with the monitoring and reporting requirements of the service and in accordance with data protection legislation.
- To ensure that barriers for those who find services difficult to access are actively minimised, providing a welcoming service.
- Undertake any other duties and responsibility commensurate with the post.
