Looking for a career where you can genuinely make a difference, without sacrificing your work-life balance?
Not everyone wants another job.
Some people want to finish work knowing they've made somebody's day a little better.
At St Piers, every day brings the chance to help children and young adults with special educational needs and disabilities grow in confidence, develop independence and achieve things they never thought possible.
You don't need previous experience in care.
If you're kind, patient and ready to learn, we'll give you all the training and support you need to build a rewarding career as a Residential Support Worker.
Why choose St Piers?
Unlike many care roles, this is a term-time only position with the option for Monday to Friday-only working, giving you more time to enjoy school holidays and weekends while building a meaningful career. We are fully open to receiving applications from both part-time and full-time candidates.
When you join us, you'll benefit from:
- Full training from day one
- Genuine career progression opportunities
- Funded professional development and qualifications
- Free on-site parking
- Subsidised meals in our on-site restaurant
- Employee discounts through our rewards platform
- Occupational pension scheme
- Potential access to affordable on-site accommodation
- A friendly, experienced team who will support you every step of the way
What does a Residential Support Worker do?
No two days are ever the same. One morning you might be supporting a young person to prepare breakfast independently for the very first time.
Later that day, you could be encouraging someone to take part in a favourite activity, helping them build confidence in social situations or celebrating a personal achievement they've worked incredibly hard to reach.
You'll play an important part in creating a safe, caring and encouraging home environment where young people feel valued, respected and supported.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting young people with daily living skills and encouraging independence.
- Providing personal care where required, always with dignity, respect and compassion.
- Building positive relationships that help young people feel safe and confident.
- Encouraging participation in education, hobbies, recreation and community activities.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and families.
- Recording important information and contributing to care plans.
- Celebrating progress and recognising every achievement, no matter how small.
Who we're looking for:
We're much more interested in who you are than where you've worked. You'll fit in well if you are:
- Caring and compassionate
- Calm and patient
- Reliable and dependable
- A positive team player
- A confident communicator
- Resilient when faced with challenges
- Passionate about helping others achieve their potential
Many of our colleagues previously worked in retail, hospitality, education, childcare, customer service and healthcare before discovering a career in residential care.
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
A great personal challenge:
Supporting children and young people with complex needs can be challenging.
Some young people require support with personal care, mobility, communication or behaviours that may challenge. There will be busy days, emotional moments and situations that require patience, resilience and teamwork.
We think it's important to be open about that because our job is to find the people who ‘want’ this job, not those that ‘need’ a job.
What makes this role special is that you'll never face those challenges alone.
You'll receive comprehensive training, ongoing support and guidance from experienced colleagues who genuinely care about each other and the young people we support.
The difficult days are balanced by unforgettable moments. Watching someone achieve a goal they've spent months working towards. Seeing confidence grow, helping someone become more independent, and knowing you've played a part in changing the direction of a young person's life.
Those moments are why so many people build long and rewarding careers here.
