Job Introduction
We’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our Health & Safety team and help us maintain safe, compliant and well-managed stores across our nationwide estate.
The role will aid the H&S team in supporting stores across the entirety of the UK. This is a field-based role with regular travel to meet business needs across the country, but weekly travel to Liverpool Head Office will also need to be required.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting more than 600 retail locations, working closely with operational teams to ensure our stores remain safe places for both colleagues and customers. You’ll combine site visits, auditing, Fire Risk assessing, coaching and risk management with a proactive approach to driving continuous improvement and embedding a positive health and safety culture.
Job Overview
- Leading the day-to-day implementation of the health and safety agenda across our retail stores, helping to ensure they are safe places to work and shop.

Carrying out site visits, audits and risk assessments toidentifyhazards,monitorcompliance and recommend practical improvements.

Ensuring operational health and safety policies and procedures are clear, effective and reflect relevant legal and business requirements.

Supporting Store Managers, Area Managers and Regional Managers with health and safety advice,coachingand guidance.

Investigating accidents and incidents, supporting operationalteamsand completing statutory reporting whererequired.
-
Liaising with enforcing authorities, including Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Fire and Rescue Services, the Police and DEFRA.

Completing site-specific risk assessments covering areas such as fire, equipment, tasks, welfare,individualsand workplace locations.

Identifyingopportunities to improve health and safety standards and supporting the implementation of changes across retail operations.
-
Monitoring changes to legislation and regulations, ensuring the business is prepared for any new requirements.

Tracking health and safety performance, analysingtrendsand producing clear reports to support continuous improvement.

Developing and implementing fire risk assessment and auditing templates across more than 600 retail sites.

Acting as a subject matter expert on areas including fire safety, food safety, asbestos, legionella, pest management, lifting equipment, material handlingequipmentand contractor management.

Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across Retail, Training, Store Development, Product Compliance and Central Operations.
Minimum Criteria To Apply
- A minimum of three years' experience in a Health & Safety Advisor or similar field-based role within retail or another multi-site environment.

NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum qualification.

An active Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record demonstrating ongoing professional development.

Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and fire safety requirements.

Experience carrying out fire risk assessments, supported by a Level 3 Fire Safety qualification (or equivalent) as a minimum.

Experience undertaking workplace risk assessments and accident investigations.

Confident working with enforcing authorities, including the HSE, Environmental Health, Fire and Rescue Services, Trading Standards and other regulatory bodies. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence colleagues at all levels.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions and implement practical solutions.

Experience monitoring compliance, analysing safety performance and producing clear reports to support continuous improvement.

A proactive approach to building a positive health and safety culture through coaching and engagement.
-
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Desirable:

Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent).

Professional membership with IOSH and/or the Institute of Fire Safety Managers.
